This position will implement, administer and direct the corporate safety program. Leads development of specific safety and environmental policies and programs to reduce losses and protect staff. Partners with corporate, regional and site resources including Corporate Security, Corporate Real Estate Services, Human Resources, Corporate Insurance Risk Management, Legal, Business Continuity Planning and site operations management on all safety related matters. Conducts assessments, reviews and inspections to ensure adherence to corporate polices, standards, regulatory compliance and to reduce losses. Provides direction and assists regional and site partners in conducting and coordinating training for general safety programs to ensure objectives are met. Assists with safety and environmental related reporting and record-keeping requirements and ensures compliance. Coordinates and ensures proper safety and/or environmental compliance reporting (U.S. Dept. of Labor, OSHA, EPA and/or similar state-level organizations, etc.). Direct and manage department safety staff.
BA/BS degree in Safety, EHS, Industrial Hygiene, Environmental Engineering
OSHA 10 & 30-hour courses for General Industry, other OSHA Training Institute certification / courses and advanced degree preferred
Ten to 14 years of experience in safety or related field, Worker¿s Comp, EHS, fire & life safety practices is required
Experience managing / supporting geographically diverse subordinates and facilities preferred
Valid driver¿s license is required and must be maintained; Certified Safety Professional (CSP), Certified Industrial Hygienist (CI or similar safety related certification preferred
Strong working knowledge and experience with common office computer systems, database and spreadsheet utilities
PC, network, communication devices, alarm devices, sensors and systems, door hardware and other technical safety / security systems
Ability to travel 20-30%, be on-call and respond to incidents on a 24-hour basis and work a flexible schedule
Strong working knowledge of applicable safety, health environmental and fire/life safety codes, standards and regulations including those promulgated by OSHA, EPA, NIOSH, ISO, NIST, ANSI, NFPA
Ability to wear PPE, including respirator, ability to enter confined spaces, heights and other non- standard environments
Ability to communicate orally and in writing
Excellent analytical and problem solving skills, mechanical aptitude
Knowledge of loss prevention, ergonomics, repetitive motion and Worker's Comp compliance programs.
