Major Job Duties and Responsibilities:
Design Responsible for Exterior Body Sheet Metal and Trim components including: Fenders, Hoods, Doors, Upper & Lower Structure, luggage Racks, Sunroof and Convertible Tops, Assist Steps, Body Side and Rocker Moldings, Fender Vents, Fuel Door Asm's and Charge Ports, Emblems and Badging, Sill Plates, License Plate Appliqués, Spoilers, Aero Shields, Air Inlet Panels, Underhood Sight Shields, Fixed Glass and Wipers,
Produces creative solutions to complex graphic design assignments
Fully understands methods and design procedures
Applies knowledge of graphic design requirements, manufacturability and production specifications and requirements for graphic design
Applies knowledge of corporate graphic design computer platforms and the interface with Alias and U/G
Fully understands Team Center, Global Quality Seal, SYNC Points and VAS
Applies knowledge of cost, safety requirements, export requirements and other specific requirements as appropriate to design assignments
Offers design suggestions for process and design solution improvement
Understands design with various materials, mediums and production and supplier requirements
Recognizes problems with the potential to solve critical areas or risks when designing graphic and visual communications and possesses the ability to propose solutions
Provides drawings, data, and all other design information to groups for release
Understands buildability and manufacturability of design as appropriate to a variety of assignments
Has familiarity with competitor/benchmark data on similar graphic design
Understands data acquisition functions and how studio interfaces with the NAO shops
Meets timing and quality objectives and understand VDP requirements for each milestone
Applies knowledge of total vehicle design process
Participates in design reviews and project meetings as required and conducts meetings when appropriate
Verifies and is responsible for quality of own design/changes
Resolves technical and aesthetic design conflicts
Able to design quick mock-ups for design reviews and coordinate with shop and processes
Interfaces with outside vendors and suppliers as required
Qualifications
Required Skills/Experience:
Knowledge of computer software as it pertains to department
Ability to organize self with adequate notes, records, drawings and designs
Ability to negotiate effectively
Ability to visualize in 2D and 3D and understand aesthetic aspects of design
Well developed oral and written communication skills
Relatively high level analytical and problem solving ability
Able to follow multiple jobs concurrently
Preferred Skills/Experience:
Several years (9years plus) work experience in related design field
Associate Degree in Automotive Body Design or equivalent training with Graphic Design or Industrial Design major
