The primary role of the Jr. DBA/Software Development Engineer is to design and deliver some of the more complex infrastructure solutions leveraging Oracle technologies and to back up or support the Sr. DBA.You will be part of a core team providing application support expertise, as well as providing technical guidance to the Information Services department and the Western Conference of Teamsters Pension Trust client consultant. The position requires you to select implement technologies from Oracle's enterprise suite of products. You should have a basic understanding of application design and Oracle development concepts and tools.As a Jr. DBA/Software Development Engineer, your focus will be architecting, developing and testing various enterprise application solutions as well as serving a support role to the Sr. DBA. You will begin to build management, technical and planning skills by participating in internal development projects and will gain valuable knowledge and skills by working closely with the Sr. DBA. In this position, you will demonstrate proficiency in your abilities to think creatively and design/architect solutions to complex problems.Primary Responsibilities (Essential Functions): Work closely with the WCTPT consultant, the users and the VP of IS on technical direction and implementation of product solutions and with the Business Analyst for user requirements. Participate in and contribute to the design of desktop and web-based application architecture.Participate in technical design meetingsDevelop components/modules/scripts implementing business process rules. Document software components sufficient for on-going support and enhancement. Support the Sr. DBA and assume full DBA responsibilities when necessary.Effectively communicate status of tasks and projects to the WCTPT consultant and other IS and Executive management staff, as required.Serve as a technical information resource.Assist with the recommendations for system changes and project priority. Experience, Knowledge and Skills Required for the Position: You will be degree qualified with excellent communication skills and will have hands on experience working on Oracle technologies. Qualified candidates should possess: Bachelor's degree or equivalent education and experience in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Math, MIS, Physics or related field and 3 - 5 years experience as a Software Engineer/Programmer. Associates degree and 6 or more years experience also accepted. 3+ years experience in Java, J2EE, JavaScript, PL/SQL, SQLExperience with 11g forms and reportsExperience with Oracle Portal and SQL DeveloperBasic Oracle platform SkillsQA and testing proceduresFull software development lifecycle experience on enterprise-class, scalable applications Demonstrated project experience with regard to estimates, planning and deliverablesProven ability to understand a customer's needsExperience developing technical requirements based on business imperativesStrong customer service
