The purpose of this position is data collection, collation, and analysis services in support of the Heritage Genetics program. The successful applicant will be responsible
for maintaining and ensuring the accuracy of the Genetics data collection, storage, and analysis systems. This position spends 60% of a normal workweek performing data collation and analysis and information system maintenance. This position spends 40% of a
normal work week performing field trial data collection and input.
Performs duties as specified for Genetics Technician - 1.
Provides feedback to Heritage Genetics staff on accuracy and efficiency of data collection programs.
Assists and/or trains other Genetics technicians as needed.
Maintains good oral and written communication with the Heritage Genetics and Production staff.
Maintains the genetics pedigree data base.
Coordinates and schedules genetic processes, including pedigree hatches, grading, yield and FCR testing programs.
Produces data summaries as requested by the Director of Genetics.
Produces selection data summaries requiring collation and analysis of pedigree progeny test data, grading data, elite FCR data, egg grading and production data, and BLUP breeding value calculations.
. Strong oral and written communication skills and experience with Microsoft Office (or similar) and statistical analysis programs required. Experience in animal breeding operation preferred. Must be highly motivated, conscientious, and dependable with
a positive attitude; must be able to work well with others; must be able to collect data and record results with exceptional accuracy and precision; must be able to collate data and perform data analysis, must be well organized.
Required Education B.S. in science or information technology, with an emphasis on statistical analysis strongly recommended
Must be able to work indoors and outdoors under a variety of environmental conditions (chicken houses, hatcheries, etc.). Must meet all Heritage
Primary Breeders Biosecurity requirements (such as not coming into contact with birds nor residing with people with regular bird contact). Must be able to lift 50 lbs.
Generally 7:00 AM to 3:00 PM Monday thru Friday. Occasionally may be required to report to hatches as early as 5:00 AM. Overtime may be scheduled as needed and directed
by the Director of Genetics.
