In this position you will serve as a Student Trainee in the CMS Pathways - Positions within the Administrative Student Trainee, GS-0399, series will be assigned with Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services to assist professional and technical staff by performing a variety of support to office staff. Typical work assignments may include:
Providing managers and employees with information regarding the agency's operational policies, procedures and guidelines;
Providing program and administrative support functions and preparing correspondence;
Reviewing documents to compile data and information for a specific program, project, or issue. QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

PROGRAM ELIGIBILITY REQUIREMENTS:
To be eligible for the Pathways Internship Program, an individual must have been accepted for enrollment or be enrolled and seeking a degree (diploma, certificate, etc.) in a qualifying educational institution/program on a full or half-time basis for the upcoming FALL 2013 semester . - AND - Possess and maintain a cumulative GPA of 3.0 or higher on the 4.0 scale.
GS-04: Successful completion of education 2 years above high school (This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school.);
GS-05: Successful completion of education 4 years above high school (This education must have been obtained in an accredited business, secretarial or technical school, junior college, college or university. One year of full-time academic study is defined as 30 semester hours, 45 quarter hours, or the equivalent in a college or university, or at least 20 hours of classroom instruction per week for approximately 36 weeks in a business, secretarial, or technical school.);
- OR - 1 year of general experience which is progressively responsible clerical, office, or other work that indicates ability to acquire the particular knowledge and skills needed to perform the duties of the position to be filled. Examples of general experience may include answering telephones; typing; scanning; filing; copying; or greeting customers.
- OR - Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements at the grade GS-04.
GS-07: Successful completion of 1 full academic year of graduate level education (One year of full-time graduate education is considered to be the number of credit hours that the school attended has determined to represent 1 year of full-time study. If that information cannot be obtained from the school, 18 semester hours should be considered as satisfying the 1 year of full-time study requirement. Part-time graduate education is creditable in accordance with its relationship to a year of full-time study at the school attended.);
- OR - 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-04; examples of specialized experience include: routing mail; checking reports and documents for grammar and punctuation; or answering and routing telephone calls ;
- OR - Equivalent combinations of successfully completed post-high school education and experience may be used to meet total experience requirements at grades GS-05 and below; for the GS-05 level, only education in excess of the first 60 semester hours (i.e., beyond the second year) is creditable toward meeting the specialized experience requirement. One full academic year of study (30 semester hours) beyond the second year is equivalent to 6 months of specialized experience.
Transcripts are required to verify satisfactory completion of education as part of the qualification requirements.

- OR - 1 year of specialized experience equivalent to at least the GS-05; examples of specialized experience include: maintaining office records and files, locating and compiling data for use by senior staff; or experience creating reports and correspondence ;

CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT:
