Provides daily supervision, training, and on-going assistance to credentials specialists and credentials assistants regarding credentialing matters.
Oversees the development and implementation of a protocol for timely and thorough processing of all new applications to the medical staffs and allied health staffs of region hospitals, in keeping with JCAHO standards and the bylaws of each hospital.
Oversees the development and implementation of a schedule, which ensures the timely review and development of reappointment recommendations for all medical staff members, in keeping with JCAHO standards, and the bylaws of each region hospital.
Serves as a resource along with the regional director of medical staff services on credentialing issues.
Actively participates on the Aurora Centralized Credentialing Operations Committee.
Actively participates in both the Wisconsin and National Associations of Medical Staff Services to maintain current knowledge of JCAHO and NCQA standards related to credentialing, legal issues related to medical staff organizations, and national trends in credentialing and privileging of licensed and independent and dependent practitioners.
Works closely with the Aurora Centralized Verification Service (CVS) on providing timely service on new medical staff applicants, as well as biennial reappointments.
Works closely with the Credentials Committees on the development of procedure-specific privileging criteria to ensure a consistent means to assess the training, experience, and current clinical competence of medical staff members requesting those privileges.
Performs human resources responsibilities for staff which includes coaching on performance, completes performance reviews and overall staff morale. Recommends hiring, terminations, compensation changes, promotions, corrective action decisions, and terminations.
Responsible for understanding and adhering to the Aurora Health Care Code of Ethical Conduct and for ensuring that personal actions, and the actions of employees supervised, comply with the policies, regulations and laws applicable to Aurora's business.
Manages and coordinates physician and allied health credentialing activities throughout the Metro Region. Works closely with the Manager of Medical Staff Services at each site to assure accuracy and timeliness of credentialing activities. Directly manages Credentials Specialists and Credentials Assistants at the Centralized Credentialing Department for the Metro Region to assure a high quality of credentialing, to standardize processes within the Region, and to assure that hospitals within the region are collaborating on credentialing processes to eliminate unnecessary paperwork for Medical Staff members at each hospital within the region.
Bachelor's degree (or equivalent knowledge) in Health Care Administration or other related field.
Requires 3 years of experience in physician and allied health credentialing.
Must be knowledgeable of the capabilities of computer systems and be able to utilize this knowledge in automating processes. This includes knowledge of advanced word processing and multiple, intermediate-level computer applications.
Strong communication, interpersonal, diplomatic, and self-motivation skills.
Must be able to interact effectively with individuals at all levels within the organization.
Current certification (or within two years of hire) as a Certified Provider Credentialing Specialist (CPCS) and/or Certified Professional Medical Services Management (CPMSM) granted by the National Association Medical Staff Services (NAMSS).
Leadership experience should include one year of management of staff, budgets and multiple human resources functions at a supervisory or lead level.
Advanced database management skills required to automate processes and to work with Windows-based software systems, such as Excel and Access.
