establish and execute the visual design of its web-based courses in a
fast-paced, collaborative team environment. eCornell’s aim is to create highly
engaging, effective, and human-centric learning solutions for corporate and
retail clients.

Position Overview
Working in collaboration with eCornell
Instructional Designers and Production Coordinators, and drawing upon the vast
subject expertise of the Cornell University faculty community, the Interactive
Designer is expected to effectively leverage a variety of multimedia tools,
platforms, and resources to design our courses and bring them to life for our
students, while also meeting budget requirements and deadlines. Ultimately, the
Interactive Designer will enhance the instructional integrity of eCornell’s
learning solutions through effective and efficient use of multimedia and sound
graphic design principles.

Essential Responsibilities
Reporting to the VP of Curriculum Development, the
Interactive Designer will perform the following responsibilities (other duties

may be assigned):
Hold the vision for, and
lead the execution of, the overall look and feel of eCornell’s learning
products and platforms.
Guide all visual aspects of
eCornell’s learning solutions, establishing and maintaining sound design
principles for eCornell courses and course bi-products that can be
executed upon by a range of contributors.
Collaborate with eCornell
instructional designers to design and execute all visual design elements
of our courses, assuring overall instructional integrity, student
engagement, and on-time delivery to market.
Creatively bring complex and
often ambiguous content to life in a variety of subject areas, ranging
from business skills content to data-driven material.
Establish strong
collaborative relationships with eCornell’s instructional designers and
outside contributors, enabling industry-leading results while maintaining
margins and deadlines.
Enhance content by designing
supporting multimedia (graphics, video, audio, downloadables, etc.), while
also establishing templates required by outside multimedia contributors.
Prepare pre-production for
taping, including selection of props and studio material, selection, and
background (photo-real, real, 3D).
Work with team members to make
decisions in post-production which enhance the understanding of the course
material for customers.
Lead the effective design of
the various user-interface elements.
Oversee the look and feel of
various course interactive types by collaborating with eCornell’s software
developers and providing necessary graphic guidance and design.
In partnership with on-line
editors and graphic artists, design, edit, and proof graphic materials and
on-screen text.
Meet exacting content
requirements and delivery deadlines.

Required Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in graphic
design or equivalent area with minimum of five years experience in a lead
graphic design role in the eLearning field.
Expert multimedia design and
development capabilities, including experience combining video with
animated text and graphics.
Demonstrated collaborative
and team-building skills.
Proven experience
conceptualizing, storyboarding, designing, and coding interactive media.
Ability to make intermediate
changes to CSS and XML.
Advanced Creative Suite
Familiarity with
cross-browser and cross-platform issues and developing technologies.
Proficiency in Mac and
Windows environments.
Brand sensitivity.
Strong troubleshooting,
attention to detail, and organizational skills.
Ability to effectively and
accurately communicate creative and technical information to both
technical and lay audiences.
Experience designing user
interfaces, navigation elements, skins.
Experience training other
graphic designers (management or related leadership experience preferred).
Excellent interpersonal and
communication skills; ability to work with a variety of people include
faculty partners, graphic artists, help desk employees, programmers, and

Advanced graphic design.

Adobe Creative Suite.
Advanced illustration.
Video editing and
incorporation (Camtasia, Final Cut, etc).
Beginning to intermediate
HTML/CSS/JavaScript skills (jQuery preferred).
An understanding of web
development principles.
Audio and/or video
production and post-production skills.
