THE POSITION: Performs support and safety duties at the Arizona State Hospital and the Arizona Community Protection and Treatment Center. Monitors exterior areas of the hospital and campus to ensure all areas are locked and safe. Conducts investigations as assigned and writes complete incident reports; operates the Civil Hospital Control Center, the Cholla Control Center, the Forensic Hospital Control Center and the Traffic/Entry Control directing visitors and staff; operates electronic cameras and other safety related equipment to monitor activities throughout the ASH campus, accurately completes all required logs, forms and reports. Provides customer service functions by welcoming visitors to the campus and assisting them in visiting family members, friends or employees on the campus. Maintains a record of all parties entering and leaving the campus and supports emergency response to the campus by medical professionals, fire department personnel or law enforcement personnel. Individuals in this position must be able to rapidly respond to emergency situations and be able to use non-violent crisis intervention techniques, including the application of approved physical interventions when necessary. Performs related work as required.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES (KSAs): Knowledge and understanding of ASH and ACPTC policies and procedures and departmental operating methods; of security monitors and electronic cameras or other safety related equipment, use of radio communication equipment, telephone equipment, emergency phone numbers, etc., evacuation procedures including the use of fire extinguishers and their operation; proper investigation and report writing; of methods, techniques and practice of receiving, transmitting and carrying out written or verbal directions while maintaining an even temperament under stressful conditions. Knowledge of customer service principles; skills in basic first aid and CPR; skills in investigation and proper report writing skills; in driving state vehicles and ability to recognize and report safety hazards; skills in the use of radio communication and electronic safety systems equipment; ability to give and receive directions and transmit clear directions; skills in fire drill evacuation techniques, in applying and interpreting Federal, State and agency laws, rules, regulations, policies and procedures governing safety of the campus and maintaining effective working relationships with staff and visitors. Ability to drive and operate a state vehicle; ability to maintain interpersonal relationships with staff, families, outside professionals and the general public; to maintain a calm and even temperament during stressful conditions; to speak and write effectively; the ability to perform physical duties such as lifting and carrying. Knowledge of the performance management (PM) model and continuous quality improvement (CQI) methods in a public health setting. SPECIAL SELECTION FACTORS. Must have and maintain current valid Arizona Driver's License. Position requires a post job offer medical/ physical exam. A State Hospital employee must be able to obtain a valid level one fingerprint clearance card pursuant to ARS §41-1758.07 THE PREFERRED CANDIDATE: at least one (1) year of hospital, health care or related facility access management work experience and a combination of training, education and work experience in an institutional setting. Course work towards a degree in human services, psychology, sociology, social justice, counseling, mental health, social work or a closely related field.
