Stability and Control Engineer

Plan and conduct stability and control analysis using theoretical developments, wind-tunnel, and flight data. Predict flight results and compare prediction to flight data. Write flight and ground test requests to gather data required to understand and resolve issues. Provide real-time flight test support using telemetry. Reduce flight data for use in engineering analyses. Work with other engineering disciplines to identify and resolve issues. Develop and extend standard stability and control and flight mechanics analysis tools and processes to continue to build efficiency and capability going forward. Analyze data against 14CFR Part 23 standards.
Knowledgeable in developing, using, and validating specialized flight mechanics prediction tools.
Strong programming skills in tools such as Matlab/Simulink, Fortran, Visual Basic.
Capability with aerodynamic prediction tools such as vortex-lattice and panel codes desirable.
Should have a strong theoretical background in flight dynamics, and a working knowledge of mass properties, applied aerodynamics, and aircraft loads.
Thorough understanding of 14CFR Part 23 requirements for Flight Sciences disciplines. Familiarity with aircraft icing considerations.
Theoretical foundation and familiarity working in both time and frequency domains.
Thorough understanding of rigid body dynamics, flight mechanics, and automatic flight control system design and performance.
5 or more years of directly applicable experience with Stability and Control on advanced, multi-engine aircraft, preferably involving certification of a new design or significant modification of a civil aircraft certified under 14CFR Part 23 or 25.
Bachelor's degree in an appropriate engineering discipline; Master's degree preferred.
