Brief Description of the Job:
The position will provide leadership, planning, technical direction, communication and coaching skills to ensure safe production of high quality products to meet customer needs in the most cost effective manner. Works with all employees to improve processes & eliminate wastes. Develops and improves production processes and equipment/machinery to improve efficiency, reduce costs and increase productivity. Identifies and implements optimal changes in methods, procedures, equipment and systems. Oversees Lean and Six Sigma programs, conducts training and mentors in LSS and Lean. This position will report to the Plant Manager and will supervise two exempt and two non-exempt positions.

Principal Accountabilities:
1. Provides overall guidance and direction for the Production Engineering and Continuous Improvement group. 2. Designs new equipment and machinery as conceived to support the in-house needs of Manufacturing and Engineering. Provides engineering drawings and specifications; obtains construction bids; performs construction management as required. 3. Drives Continuous Improvement to quantitatively and qualitatively improve costs, quality, and service. 4. Teaches, coaches, motivates, and mentors the organization in continuous improvement methodologies including but not limited to Six Sigma, 5S, Lean, OEE and others. 5. Provides project management and prioritizes process and product improvements and development to maximize production yields and cost effectiveness. 6. Interfaces with members of the R&D/Engineering department and manufacturing departments for joint development of mutually beneficial production process improvements.

  • Minimum of Bachelor#s Degree in Engineering - Minimum of LSS Black belt certified, Master Black belt preferred - Minimum of seven years of engineering experience in an industrial environment - Experience with department management, project management, process development, statistical data analysis and SPC is preferred - Ability to design machine components and related systems (using AutoCAD) - Knowledge of electrical, gas plumbing, machine design and prototyping
