The Kent County Health Department is responsible for continually assessing the health of the community and ensuring that services are available and accessible for our citizens. KCHD also plans and implements public education and enforces public health laws.
Due to a Voluntary Retirement Incentive, we are seeking team members to work in our state-of-the-art laboratory.
The Senior Medical Technologist will perform medical laboratory tests, procedures and experiments to provide data for the diagnosis, treatment and prevention of disease. Will conduct and provide sophisticated qualitative and quantitative analysis of the results of laboratory procedures in hematology, serology, bacteriology, histology, chemistry, toxicology and/or other specialties. Will provide training and direction for other Medical Technologists and certify test results in the absence of the Laboratory Manager. Will maintain the Laboratory Information Systems.
Must be available for on-call rotation and to work occasional weekends and holidays.
Bachelor’s degree in Microbiology, Chemistry, Medical Technology or closely related field and a minimum of five years work experience as a medical technologist in an accredited medical laboratory. Must possess Certification as a Senior Medical Technologist by the American Society of Clinical Pathologists, American Association of Clinical Chemistry, American Society of Microbiology or Michigan Department of Community Health. Must possess a thorough working knowledge of OSHA/MIOSHA rules and regulations regarding medical laboratory operations.
