EchoStar is looking for a Linux Systems Engineer to provide technical desktop/server planning, implementation, support and troubleshooting services. This person will maintain constant contact with the Linux Lead Systems Engineer to ensure tasks and services are met.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Configure, build, implement, and administer Linux / UNIX OS and applications including patches and updates.

Assist with capacity planning and analysis.

Excellent scripting skills with strong knowledge of BASH, PERL, AWK, and other languages.

Design automated scripts to improve efficiency, operational stability and operational integrity.

Assist in administering VMWare server farm including building servers, cloning servers, allocation of storage, and management of virtual network.

Provide support for VMWare, mysql, and associated utilities.

Assist in directly administering NetApp storage systems.

Design and document new operational processes.

Define/determine windows related problem, action for resolution, and develop functional specifications.

Install, configure and maintain server hardware and peripherals.

Develop technical technology requirements for Linux/Unix related projects and/or issues.

Provide technical assistance for Linux related issues then implement solutions to meet these requirements.

Provide continued process improvement within the Linux Team process and procedures.

Provide technical leadership and mentoring responsibilities with peers.

Speak and interact intelligently at an appropriate technical level for the audience being addressed. A person in this position must be comfortable dealing with the various levels from the least technical to technical expert.

Provide accurate, clear, concise documentation for your area of responsibility. Produce complete requirements and/or specifications as appropriate.

Share technical knowledge and experience with organized, pertinent materials and methods to improve team’s processes, products and services.

Perform all necessary functions associated with the implementation and integration of the enterprise environment.

Assume responsibility for ensuring that a quality job is done right the first time, and promote teamwork.

Identify, define and measure the quality of support and service provided to the organization, striving for continual improvement.

Recommend alternative processes to improve service delivery to our enterprise environment in a cost-effective way.

Install, configure and maintain virtual environments (server and VDI) using VMWare.

Skills and Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Science, Electronic, or equivalent

Linux/Unix certifications and storage certifications Proven experience of 5+ years with designing, architecting, administering and implementing advanced Linux infrastructure solutions.

Proven experience in Linux/Unix infrastructure solutions, e.g. implementing and configuring Linux server and desktop Operating Systems.

Experience in Storage system (Network Attach Storage or SAN).

Proven experience in LDAP and integration with Active Directory configurations.

Proven experience in Backup configurations and DR procedures.

Experience with server Security initiatives

Proven experience in VMWare (version 5) and provisioning with these tools.

Ability to apply technical knowledge to perform all functions.

Proven analytical and problem solving techniques.

Ability to work as a proactive, resourceful, cooperative and respectful team member.

Strong written communication skills required for preparing appropriate documentation for requirements definition, server planning, network, and demos
