The Sr. NPI Engineer will be part of the Cordis Franchise Operations Development (FOD) team.. He/she will use knowledge of project management, enterprise-wide supply chains, knowledge of manufacturing operations, scientific techniques and process excellence to function as an integral member of a development team designing, developing, validating, and starting up sustainable world-class manufacturing & supply chain operations supporting the company's product portfolio and associated product quality, cost & performance objectives. Ensures continuity of supply by leading and participating in complex projects that require influencing and supporting cross-functional teams such as: R&D, Quality Engineering, Marketing, Finance, Procurement, Manufacturing, and Environmental/Safety and drives the development and implementation of Business Continuity Plans to mitigate against supply disruption risks.

Duties and Responsibilities:
Provides manufacturing and operations inputs into the design of new product to ensure product is designed to meet business metrics including Cost and Gross Profit Margins. Participates in identifying, influencing, selecting and qualifying suppliers. Supports flawless transfer of new products and processes from R&D or other transferring partners into the Supply Chain (J&J or external) and the launch of products into regional or global commercial markets.

Collaborate with internal functions and suppliers to finalize product design, material selection & process selection. Participate in assessing supplier process robustness and collaborate on process excellence initiatives for continuous improvement. Drives Cost Improvement Projects and works collaboratively with cross functional team in developing cost targets, attainment and monitoring plans, metrics and in developing and obtaining team consensus.

Facilitate creation of development and commercial supply agreements to support program needs ensuring all key operations and manufacturing requirements are adequately addressed, obtain necessary consensus by leading trade-off discussions and prioritization activities on contracts. Undertakes due-diligence activities in support of external deals and acquisitions and provides technical and business recommendation to facilitate decisions making.

Uses demand planning, inventory optimization, and works with internal and external teams to develop capacity plans for scale up including requirements for capital and validation expenses. Drives necessary funding approvals in support of key project initiatives and commercial requirements. Supports the resource planning and scale up requirements including equipment and head count requirements for manufacturing scale up internally and externally.

Participates or leads strategic decision making process including make vs. buy analysis, site selection decisions, and makes balanced recommendations to management with regard to short term and long terms program objectives. Collaborates with appropriate internal functions in the design, specification, procurement and installation of assembly equipment, jigs, fixtures & gages, and supports specification of acceptance criteria.

Supports the development of assembly process by applying appropriate "world class" manufacturing concepts that meet team objectives for product quality, cost and performance. Contributes to decision-making in key areas of the project including financial, marketing, planning, quality and design. Assignments will typically be of high complexity and impact to organization under guidance from Senior Managers and Directors. Candidates will actively participate in Quality Function Deployment, design FMEA, project plan development, updates to management board & other core team activities to help establish project direction and ensure total team success. This position will require up to 20%- Domestic and International travel and is located in Fremont, CA.

Qualifications

This position requires a minimum of 5 years experience with a Bachelor's degree OR 3 years of experience with a MS or MBA. A Bachelor's degree in Engineering is preferred. Candidates who possess demonstrated experience in new product process design and development and manage manufacturing operations for current product is required. Project Management experience is required. Candidates with a thorough working knowledge of the validation requirements for Medical Devices with demonstrated experience are preferred. Working knowledge of Six Sigma/Process Excellence Tools and Lean tools is preferred. Proficiency with Microsoft Office and a working knowledge of statistical software such as Minitab is preferred. Candidates are required to possess demonstrated experience in the development and execution of project plans.

Excellent communication skills and ability to make complex issues easy for others to understand and the ability to prepare communications for team and senior management is required. Strong time, budget, and program management skills are also required. The ability to lead technical teams, and influence others is required including the ability to function in cross functional environments. Manufacturing experience in a regulated industry is a requirement. Cost modeling and capacity modeling for new and existing products is a preferred. This position will require up to 20%- Domestic and International travel.
