The Research Associate will work as part of an interdisciplinary team, under the supervision of Dr. Janaki R. R. Alavalapati, on conducting quantitative economic and policy analysis of a range of natural resources management issues, including bio-energy, at local, regional, national levels and beyond. The individual will take in part in literature review and compilation, data analysis, optimization simulation modeling relating to sustainable natural resources management and bio-energy systems, and preparation of the results for peer-reviewed publication. Responsibilities: --Assist in the compilation and synthesis of literature related to bio-energy and other emerging natural resources management issues like REDD+. --Conduct environmental economic analysis of bio-energy and land use change using various optimization simulation models. --Assist team members in developing quantitative economic assessment models and conducting policy analysis research relating to bio-energy and other environmental issues. --Assist in the development of and teaching a short course on valuation of natural resources and environment. --Develop and conduct short course on optimization simulation with GAMS software for various quantitative policy analyses in natural resources management field. --Engage in the development and publication of scientific manuscripts.
--Masters degree in forest economics/forestry or related natural resources management field. --Demonstrated ability to work with limited supervision and to work productively and cooperatively in an interdisciplinary research team. --Demonstrated experience of quantitative economic analysis and modeling of natural resources and environment in North America and developing countries --Coursework and experience in resource and environmental economics and modeling. --Demonstrated knowledge and experience of REDD+ projects in developing countries. --Demonstrated experience in preparing manuscripts for publication in peer-reviewed journals.
--Ph.D. in forest economics/forestry or related natural resources management field.
