This role manages Amcor's tax affairs in North America and ensures the delivery of effective and pragmatic tax advice to the businesses in the region (including Amcor Packaging Distribution, Amcor Tobacco Packaging, Amcor Flexibles Asia Pacific, Amcor Rigid Plastics and the Corporate office functions in the US).

Tax Accounting Manager Primary Job Responsibilities:A regional role encompassing:
More than 20 companies in the US and Canada, including operating, holding and financing entities;
No direct reports;
Management of tax advisors and legal counsel assisting on tax matters;
Management of relationships with State and Federal Revenue Authorities;
Management responsibility for regional budget of ~US$1.5m per annum.
Tax Advisory and Planning
Ensure tax positions in North America are optimised for transactions, commercial proposals, law changes etc, and that these tax positions fit within the broader Amcor Tax strategy;
Implement the strategic tax decisions that drive the Amcor group forward.
Manage the outsourced North American tax compliance process for all North American operating, financial and holding company entities, including:
Tax return submissions, which includes managing and reviewing the completion of the consolidated US federal income tax return, including Form 5471's and Form 5472's;
Managing and reviewing the completion of over 60 US state income tax returns;
Managing and reviewing the completion of Canadian income tax returns;
Prepare and file all requisite Form 1042's and ensure all required withholding taxes are paid by the various Amcor business groups;
Dealing with all federal and state income tax audits; and
Managing Amcor's relationship with Revenue authorities in North America.
Manage and be responsible for the overall North American tax profile, including tax losses, thin capitalisation / tax gearing, tax credits and other attributes.
Manage the tax accounting process for Amcor in North America, including:
Tax loss modelling (where required);
Ensure Amcor's North American businesses provide timely and accurate tax analyses at Amcor group reporting dates; and Liaising with external auditors.
Tax Policies, Procedures and Risk Management
Contribute to the formulation of tax policies and procedures in line with Amcor Group policies and procedures;
Support the businesses to optimise their individual and the overall Amcor group tax position by ensuring optimal tax standards and processes are in place;
Co-ordinate and manage tax audits in North America;
Develop and document appropriate transfer pricing methodologies for transactions between related parties where North America is involved in the transaction;
Contribute to the management of Amcor's tax risk management framework in order to ensure Amcor's worldwide taxation risks are appropriately monitored; and
Manage tax accounting systems utilised as support for calculation of tax balances across North America.
Tax Manager Qualifications:
CPA qualified (or equivalent) or tax qualification;
Post graduate qualifications in taxation or financial related discipline would be advantageous
5+ years of significant tax experience in a leading public accounting firm or industry position
Proven experience and ability in US Federal and State income tax.
