The post-doctoral researcher will be heavily involved in formulation development of early stage protein, peptide, nucleic acid, and nanoparticle-based therapeutics. Responsibilities would include (pre)formulation characterization, screening, and investigational studies, early development of analytical methods, and other biophysical analyses. Additionally, the individual would collaborate with other groups in Process Development (e.g. purification and analytical), and Manufacturing and Contract Manufacturing Organizations (CMOs) to develop scalable formulation processes for both Drug Substances and Drug Products throughout the product development life cycle. Shire offers a state of the art pharmaceutical development laboratory. The successful candidate will have the opportunity to learn about the product development process required to bring products into the clinic and commercial market.
The main job duty will be hands-on laboratory-based activities. Approximately 80% of this individual’s time will be spent executing experiments in the laboratory. The remainder will be distributed between authorship of reports, protocols, and manuscripts as well as presentation at team and department meetings (20%).
Education & Experience Requirements:
Essential: A Ph.D. in Pharmaceutical Sciences, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering or closely related disciplines is essential. This individual should have effective written and verbal communication skills, and a track record of creativity and scientific excellence (evident in their presentation and related publications).
Desired: Some relevant experience in a biotechnology/pharmaceutical environment is desired. General knowledge of cGMP, ICH requirements, and lyophilization technology is highly desirable.
