The Medical Center of South Arkansas (MCSA) is a 166-bed facility. This general acute-care facility is accredited by the Joint Commission on the Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations. The recently expanded medical center offers services that include surgical, neonatal, and intensive care. In 2007, a Heart and Vascular Institute was part of a multi-million dollar investment, allowing MCSA to provide the highest quality of care to its community and residents. Since 1996, the Medical Center of South Arkansas has made $40 million in improvements. Most medical specialties are represented, including Neurology, Hospitalists, and Cardiovascular Surgery.
The Emergency Department provides care to over 16,000 patients annually and has a service area of over 100,000. The U-shaped department has 11 beds and is centered around a nurses station. Both radiology and the laboratory are located down the hall from the ED and are available 24 hours. The Medical Records office has limited hours, but records are always accessible by the house supervisor. A helipad is located on site to transfer critical patients. Physicians do not have to write admitting orders.
