Description

A Materials Engineer specializing in Plastics, Elastomers and Composites Technology is needed to augment DuET's ability to effectively provide consulting support to DuPont's manufacturing plant operations and R&D growth initiatives. The candidate will be required to deal with polymer based materials such as FRP, polymeric linings such as elastomers, thermoplastics, fluoropolymers and thermoset resins, seals and gaskets of a variety of materials. The components usually handled are vessels, columns, piping, valves, hoses, expansion joints and pumps. The successful candidate will provide:

Selection of polymer based materials for Dupont plants and new processes worldwide

Corrosion testing in support of materials selection

Failure analysis of polymer based equipment

Supplier selection and audit engineering and manufacturing capability

Work with DuPont Sourcing to develop, maintain, and promote company-wide purchasing strategies for various types of polymer-based equipment.

Represent client interests and monitor progress in Original Equipment Manufacturer's or 3rd party repair shops.

Creation and updates of Engineering standards, best practices and Mechanical Integrity & Quality Assurance (MIQA) documents

Collaborate with other consultants, plant and business personnel, suppliers, and contractors

Participate in and lead projects corporate wide, as well as in consortia in which we participate

Provide assistance to shutdown and new equipment inspections

Support site MIQA and maintenance personnel during equipment overhauls and unscheduled outages- i.e., emergency repair.

Providing training and awareness in polymer based materials to a wide variety of Company audiences

Technical assistance to Teflon® and Elastomers businesses in their CPI (Chemical Process Industry) marketing activities

Bachelor's or Master's (preferred) in one of the following disciplines:

Materials Science with emphasis on Polymer materials

Polymer Sciences

Chemical Engineering or Chemistry with emphasis on polymer chemistry and processing

GPA of 3.0 or higher (Bachelor's Degree) or 3.5 (Master's Degree)

Legal right to work in the United States without restriction

Experience and other requirements:
At least 6 months experience (co-op or internships). Experience within the Chemical Process Industries or the Oil and Gas Industries is highly recommended.

Demonstrated top-notch technical skills. The candidate must be proficient in applying in-depth technical understanding of polymer materials to challenges at the plants or business tech services or other related areas. The job requires the ability to deal with people at all levels of the Company as well as with customers.

Excellent communication skills. The candidate must be able to explain complex technical information to plant personnel, engineers, scientists, and management. The candidate must be able to generate written & verbal job proposals, to deliver reliable technical recommendations, and to document the work through reports and presentations. The job requires the ability to deal with people at all levels of the Company.

Must be able to travel to DuPont facilities, equipment manufacturers, and repair shops. Up to 30% travel is possible, sometimes on short notice, and/or including some outside the U.S..

Ability to apply theory and experience to the application, inspection, start-up, troubleshooting of vessels and processes.

General knowledge of metallurgy and metallurgical processes would be a positive.

General knowledge of static process equipment typically used in chemical, polymer, food and

biological processes would be a plus.

Experience with vessel manufacturing methods and quality control would be beneficial.

Ability to quickly develop understanding of maintenance and repair methods and techniques of vessels, tanks, piping, valves, hoses and expansion joints.
