Performs repairs to equipment, and facilities in the residence halls in accordance with established procedures in order to maintain a safe and clean facility that is in good repair. Serves as departmental maintenance staff in area of plumbing and HVAC. Assist supervisor with planning / implementing preventive maintenance program for buildings, equipment; including pumps. Performs work of moderate difficulty with responsibility for independently installing, repairing and maintaining plumbing systems, HVAC systems, and heating systems including hot water and steam heating systems. General electrical and carpentry skills needed. Responds to after hours service calls when scheduled. Some overtime may be required. Essential Personnel position requiring employees to report to work during emergency situations and closings.
Training and experience in a plumbing and steamfitting trade. Demonstrated knowledge of maintenance methods; maintenance materials, tools and procedures; maintenance safety practices. Demonstrated experience and good mechanical skills in plumbing, HVAC, electrical, carpentry, and general maintenance. Previous experience understanding and interpreting blueprints and specifications. Previous experience completing accurate work order reports. Strong interpersonal communication skills with the ability to work quickly and efficiently. Working knowledge of computers, Microsoft Office software or similar. Previous experience interpreting and understanding schematic drawings, to diagnose, troubleshoot and repair water and steam systems. Some overtime required and responds to after hour service calls in a team, and work when scheduled or in emergency situations. Must be willing to work weekend shift occasionally or on a rotating shift.
Plumbing experience in a commercial or institutional setting. Previous experience with steam heating systems. Master plumberâ??s certification preferred.
