Strategically plan, supervise, and coordinate daily operations in assigned areas of the Health Information Services Department in order to provide timely and quality services to administration, medical staff, patients, families, and other organizations associated with Southern Regional Medical Center. The Coding Manager is responsible for implementing and overseeing workflow systems to facilitate accurate and efficient coding for all patient encounters using ICD-9-CM and CPT-4 coding conventions in accordance with federal, state, local and American Hospital Association coding guidelines. Coding Manager will maintain coding quality, educate hospital staff involved with inpatient and outpatient coding/abstracting and reduce the number of outstanding accounts controlled by medical records.
Minimum: CCS or CPC-H with three years coding experience in an acute care hospital. Minimum of 3 years of supervisory experience in an acute care setting required.
Education: High School diploma or equivalent required. Associates or Bachelors degree preferred.
Required Certification/Licensure: CCS, CPC-H, RHIT or RHIA required.
Special Skills: Experience with HBOC and 3M Health Information Systems a plus. Knowledge of DRG’s, APC’s, LMRP’s, and billing procedures essential. Demonstrated ability to apply knowledge and understanding of coding principles and guidelines. Ability to problem solve and organize the coding department in conjunction with case management, quality management and the financial activities of the medical center. Proficiency in motivating staff—providing on the job training of others toward effective, integrated work performance.
