Cargill Metals beginnings date back to 1832, when C. Tennant, Sons and Company began as a merchandiser of various commodities. Cargill, Incorporated acquired C. Tennant, Sons and Company as a wholly owned subsidiary in 1972. The subsidiary became a department of Cargill in 1986 and was renamed Cargill Ferrous International to focus on ferrous raw materials and steel related products.

Position Overview:
The responsibilities of the Scheduling Coordinator are designed to meet our customer’s delivery expectations, while ensuring maximum machine capacity and minimizing production down time and excessive material scrap. The Scheduling Coordinator must work with sales to avoid over booking the schedule at each production line to eliminate overtime and prevent late deliveries. Attention to detail and excellent communication skills are necessary to properly coordinate with other departments in providing accurate information in meeting customer’s demands.

  • Collaborate with other departments in delivering the right product at the proper time and at minimal cost.
  • Communicate to management and appropriate departments those situations that results in internal / external expectations not being met. For example orders that may result in late deliveries as a result of machine down time, expedited orders, or raw material shortages.
  • Collect and record appropriate data regarding plant utilization
  • Support management decisions and directives
  • Provide backup / assistance to Shipping Department as needed.
Principal Accountabilities:
55% - Scheduling / Job Set Up: Develop daily job runs based on available material, equipment and customer’s expectation. Manage job set up to minimize scrap, multi-pass orders, restocks and machine down time

20% - Customer Support: Communicate with other departments to resolve problems and provide accurate information to the customer as necessary

10% - Order Management: Balance changing customer’s needs with existing commitments as requests for scheduling changes are received

10% - Administrative Tasks: Participate in quality, safety and environmental programs to ensure compliance

5% - Department Support: Provide backup / assistance to Shipping Department as needed

  • Relocation assistance will not be provided for this position
Qualifications

Required:
High School Diploma or equivalent

Minimum 6 months experience in production processing environment OR production planning

Proficient computer skills including experience with Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, Outlook, etc.)

Effective communication skills (written, verbal, and listening)

Demonstrated organizational skills, and the attention to detail

Demonstrated ability to work with mathematical concepts

Proven ability to effectively manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment

Ability to occasionally work extended hours, and weekends as needed

Preferred:
Associates or Technical Degree in related field

2 years experience in production processing environment or production planning

Demonstrated understanding of inventory control

Basic knowledge of ISO, OSHA, Industrial Safety and Environmental Programs

Stelplan software experience

Steel Industry experience
