Purpose of position
Assembles, installs, and repairs pipes, fittings, and fixtures of heating, water, gas, and drainage systems.
Repairs and maintains water, air, gas and sewer lines and systems. Assembles and installs valves, and pipe-fittings. Repairs and maintains plumbing fixtures and equipment. Joins pipes by use of screws, bolts, fittings, solder, plastic solvent, and caulks joints. Fills pipe system with water or air and reads pressure gauges to determine whether system is leaking. Installs and repairs plumbing fixtures such as sinks, commodes, and water fountains. Able to read and interpret bulding plans and drawings.
Repairs and maintains plumbing by replacing washers and seat in leaky faucets, mending burst pipes, and opening clogged drains. Maintains hot water units. Must be available on an ?On Call? basis. Overtime may be required. Complies with all State and University Policies. Other duties may be assigned.
Class "C" Operator's Driver's License. Applicant selected must provide a current three year Driving
Record from the current state of residence. If not currently a Texas resident, must obtain a Texas Driver's License
within 30 days after entering Texas as a new resident.
Other related functions as assigned.
High school diploma or general education degree (GED); and two to three years related experience and training; or equivalent combination of education and experience. Ability to effectively present information in one-on-one and small group situations to customers, clients, and other employees of the organization. Ability to add and subtract, multiply, and divide in all units of measure, using whole number, common fractions, and decimals. Ability to compute rate, ratio, and percent. Ability to apply common sense understanding to carry out simple one-or two-step instructions. Ability to deal with standardized situations with only occasional or no variables.
Equivalent combination of relevant education and experience may be substituted as appropriate.
Journeyman Plumber License Preferred.
Uniforms and/or personal protection equipment (furnished).
May work in all weather conditions.
May work in extreme temperatures.
May work around standard office conditions.
May work around chemicals.
May work around electrical and mechanical hazards.
Use of manual dexterity.
Climbing of stairs.
Climbing of ladders.
Lifting and moving.
The employee must occasionally lift and move up to 50 pounds. Required to use Personal Protective Equipment to include: Steel toe and Non-slippery shoes and eye protection,etc.
