What You'll Do
As a member of the John Deere Intelligent Solutions Group (ISG) as a
Embedded Network Architect
, you will be responsible for all networking communications system architecture within the Intelligent Solutions group. You will:
Provide technical solutions in the area of wired and wireless communications securely in an embedded Linux product development.
Be knowledgeable of Internet Technologies, Protocols and Standards.
Be knowledgeable of embedded Linux Ethernet and wireless (wi-fi and Cellular modem) networking technologies and supporting protocols and standards.
Troubleshoot network issues on the embedded Linux environment in the area of wireless and wired networking stacks using tools like tcpdump, wireshark and Opnet.
Perform studies of network technologies and their limits.
Have an understanding of Ethernet technologies and QoS implementation and design.
Provide consultancy to teams involved in product development in area of selection of hardware and software selection to achieve technical objectives.
Guide implementation of network testing, monitoring and management.
Lead technical teams in delivering network communication solutions from statement of requirements in RFPs.
Participate actively in preplanning discussions with technical teams to produce solutions to business objectives.
Be knowledgeable of embedded Linux networking and differentiators between various vendor products.
Possess liaison skills to persuade technical and leadership product teams.
What It Takes
We need an excellent communicator, who thrives on solving problems and leading in a team environment. Ideally, you will have a Degree in Computer Science or equivalent Computer/Communications IT degree. In addition we require:
5+ years of experience with Embedded Linux Networking.
10+ years of experience with Wired and Wireless networking, including IPtables EBtables, Linux network driver and stack configuration, OpenWRT/DD-WRT/Wind River Linux Configurations, Switching, Brctl Routing, good knowledge of TCP/IP and routing protocols.
Familiarity with networking chip families.
5+ years of experience with Atheros, Red-Pine, and Broadcom Diagnostics tools.
8+ years of experience with Wireshark Opnet Wired Ethernet.
5+ years of experience with Wireless Networking.
Familiarity with 802.11 b/g/n - 5+ 802.11 s/p.
2+ years of experience with long range wifi backhaul Software Development.
Experience with C/C++.
Socket programming experience.
DDS Network Device Driver programming.
Cellular integration experience including Cellular Modem integration with Linux 2G/3G/4G.
A strong candidate would have:
Experience with embedded Linux networking for production devices.
Experience in networking technologies and applications.
Deep understanding of different networking standards and wireless protocols.
Ability to effectively communicate with team members regarding different standards and their implementation in particular applications.
Understanding of different IP addressing schemes and routing standards would be a plus.
Experience with C++, Linux Kernel and Linux networking configuration to support prototyping and test of systems.
Experience with DDS.
Experience with Mesh Networking protocols.
Experience with Satellite and Cellular Communications systems and protocols.
