We are seeking experienced, adaptable, team-oriented individuals who are committed to safe practices in the work environment to assume the role of Freight Conductor. This position will work out of our New Orleans, Baton Rouge and Geismar, LA terminals.

Only experienced conductors will be considered for this position.

The

role

Freight Conductors operate

trains and move cars,

switch tracks, inspect cars, couple and uncouple cars, mount and dismount moving equipment

in a safe manner, and

prepare reports.

Critical performance areas include:
·

Supervising the operation and administration of the train, and assuming responsibility for the freight carried on the train;

·

Building trains according to rules, regulations and clients' needs;

·

Providing, preparing and receiving various forms of oral and printed communication concerning the movement and placement of railway cars;

·

Observing, interpreting and relaying signals concerning train and engine movement;

·

Operating track switches and derails to change engine and car routes;

·

Inspecting the condition of trains and equipment;

·

Operating various devices such as the uncoupling lever to separate and couple cars;

·

Climbing ladder ways;

·

Operating handbrakes.

The training

Successful candidates will take part in seven weeks of training including five weeks in the classroom and two weeks in the operation under the guidance of

skilled instructors

. The training steps the new Freight Conductor through the critical safety skills required to work on the railroad and through the U.S. Operating Rules. Once the seven weeks of training are complete, the Freight Conductor will complete

a minimum of

45 to 60 trips as

an extra

person with a crew to enhance their knowledge and skills.

The ideal candidate profile

Ability to work autonomously, adapt to different situations and manage stress

Demonstration of good team skills and positive interactions with others

Good verbal, reading comprehension and writing skills

·

Ability to analyze situations and make decisions effectively

·

Constantly alert and prepared for unusual conditions or circumstances

·

Ability to conform to operating rules and safety procedures and maintain a high level of safety awareness in the work environment

·

Possession of basic computer skills

The requirements

·

High school diploma or equivalent General Education Diploma (GED)

·

Valid driver's license

·

Possession or ability to obtain a valid passport allowing entry/re-entry to the U.S. and Canada

·

Possession and maintenance of Transportation Worker Identification Credentials (TWIC card)

·

Ability to frequently bend, stoop, squat, kneel, perform overhead work, and

lift/carry up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds

·

Good climbing and balancing skills, good eye-hand coordination, and the ability to grasp

·

Distant visual acuity of at least 20/40 in each eye with or without glasses and the ability to

distinguish colours

with no more than four errors in a sixteen plate isochromatic test

·

An average hearing threshold (in the better ear) of 40 decibels or less at 500 HZ, 1000HZ and 2000 HZ, aided or unaided

The assets

·

Completion of college or vocational/technical school and/or Freight Conductor experience

·

Knowledge of signals or Rail Operating Rules

·

Commercial driver's license
