Facility Safety Officer, Industrial Safety
Miami, Florida

Position Description:

• Assist facility management team with development and execution of the Facility Safety Plan in coordination with Industrial Safety Specialist
• maintain all safety documentation and reports for the facility
• coordinate and conduct safety training for all associates and managers
• support the Safety Leader Program
• review safety operating procedures and processes, and recommend improvements
• compile, review and analyze safety data and work with facility management team to identify opportunities for improvement, develop action plans and assist in successful implementation
• assist facility management team in driving associate safety improvement efforts throughout the facility
• report on operations and review safety performance and improvements with the General Manager and Industrial Safety Specialist
• investigate incidents/accidents and document follow up action
• coordinate Worker's Comp claims through communication with Risk Management
• maintain OSHA 300 log
• be able to work a flexible schedule as business needs

Required Qualifications:

• High School diploma or equivalent
• three years of experience in an industrial setting; active participation with a facility safety management process (i.e. safety committee/IPT) and broad knowledge of OSHA regulations as they apply to industrial safety
• ability to identify necessary equipment or procedural changes to maintain OSHA compliance
• ability to interpret and apply OSHA 1910 General Industry Standards
• knowledge of how to conduct a comprehensive safety audit
• ability to prepare professionally written audit reports, accurately communicate findings, and assist in the development of the corrective action plans
• OSHA 511 Certification (if candidate does not possess, it will be required within the first 6 months in position)
• knowledge of injury investigation analysis techniques in an effort to determine root causation
• ability to negotiate effectively when handling matters that are sensitive in nature
• ability to recognize behaviors that may lead to injury
• ability to maintain a professional composure and keep an objective frame of mind when dealing with serious or catastrophic injuries
• ability to exhibit professionalism in all settings
• ability to prioritize and make independent decisions
• be at least 20 years of age and have a valid driver license
• excellent written and verbal communication skills
• excellent presentation skills and the ability to deliver training
• demonstrated leadership abilities
• good understanding of various industrial operations, practices and procedures
• ability to work independently and as part of a team
• ability to plan, organize and follow-through on assignments
• ability to interact with all levels of the organization
• ability to institute change and demonstrate results
• good time-management, problem-solving and analytical skills
• proficient in Excel and Word software with working knowledge of Access
• excellent attendance and punctuality record
• high level of maturity, discretion, tact and judgment
• demonstrate flexibility and a positive attitude and be self-motivated
• ability to handle confidential and sensitive information in a professional manner

Preferred Qualifications:

• five years experience in an industrial environment
• one year of experience working in the field of safety
• one year of experience training individuals in an industrial environment
• one year of experience with Publix
• completion of at least one of the following courses (courses are listed from highest to lowest in preference):

- OSHA 501
- OSHA 511
- 30 hours OSHA General Industry Training
- 10 hours OSHA General Industry Training
