The Outreach & Marketing Specialist’s primary responsibility is to lead and manage community outreach efforts and provide marketing support to achieve Hawaii Energy’s goals and objectives. These responsibilities include overseeing, planning and coordinating events (including venue and other logistics); managing the outreach calendar, promotional and energy-savings items; managing, updating and maintaining email marketing contact lists; and providing critical administrative support to Marketing Communications (Marcom).

The Specialist works with program management, team members and subcontractors to support and execute program outreach and marketing and communication efforts to increase brand awareness and encourage participation in Hawaii Energy’s energy conservation and efficiency rebates, incentives and educational offerings. The Specialist will report to the Communications Director or otherwise as assigned.

Outreach Responsibilities:

- Under the general direction of the Communications Director and Marketing Manager, independently and effectively plans and executes community outreach efforts, including but not limited to:

- Responds to requests for Hawaii Energy to attend and/or participate in events

- Manages post-event survey distribution and compilation

- Schedules team members to staff events

- Develops, procures and prepares event games or activities, supplies and giveaways

- Coordinates all aspects of set-up and clean-up

- Assists with obtaining, saving and cataloging photographic, video and other recorded media from all events that the program participates in

- Evaluates and reports on success of events

- Identifies new outreach opportunities in alignment with program objectives

- Manages the Hawaii Energy outreach calendar: Schedules and tracks all outreach events, meetings and presentations

- Manages promotional and energy-saving items:

- Maintains accurate inventory

- Assists with order/reorder of additional items as needed (e.g., seeks bids and requests for purchase approval)

- Assists with researching other giveaways for program to consider

- Responsible for planning and coordinating venue and other arrangements for Hawaii Energy-sponsored events as requested

- Manages, updates and maintains email marketing contact lists

Outreach Responsibilities, continued:

- Provides administrative support: Must be able to assist staff with various duties as needed, including arranging shipments of materials to office and neighbor islands, checking program email boxes and answering questions/forwarding to appropriate personnel for handling

- Other duties as assigned by the Communications Director

Marketing Responsibilities:

- Supports Marcom in furtherance of program objectives, including but not limited to:

- Assists with inventory and printing of program collateral

- Maintains and catalogs final versions of numerous Marcom deliverables, such as advertising and media coverage clippings

- Updates web content as requested, such as calendar of events and news section

- Note: Marcom responsibilities will evolve depending on candidate’s ability to effectively and efficiently execute above-assigned responsibilities. Evolved responsibilities may include, but are not limited to, leading and/or supporting social media, website content development, program trade ally communications and other Marcom-related projects


- Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in marketing or related field

- Ability to work in a fast-paced office environment

- Previous experience in marketing and/or outreach or event-related field

- Demonstrated good organizational, management and interpersonal skills

- Can-do attitude and will to succeed

- Ability to follow instructions and desire to learn new skills

- Attention to detail, quality and follow-through

- Mastery of Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint or equivalent

- Professional demeanor and ability to work with a diverse group of people

- College level math and English skills

- Experience with record-keeping and organization of data

- Comfortable with computers, website management and social media

- Be able to prioritize assigned tasks, communicate effectively and contribute to improving work methods and procedures
