Advanced Technologies and Regenerative Medicine LLC, (ATRM) is a results-driven R&D organization dedicated to delivering innovative products through convergence of core capabilities, applied research and technology solutions in the areas of cells, biomaterials, nanotechnologies, localized drug delivery systems and bioactives. Our research and technology platforms are applied toward generating new product concepts through collaborations with our R&D and commercial colleagues across Johnson & Johnson. As a Principal Scientist in the Drug Delivery Group at ATRM you will be responsible for translating emerging technology platforms into innovative, drug enhanced, implantable device concepts based on novel biomaterials, localized drug delivery, nanotechnology, and cells/regenerative medicine.

You will be involved in drug delivery discovery programs and collaborative programs leading to the development of novel drug enhanced devices, new technologies for localized drug delivery, sustained release as well as targeted drug delivery. Through a proactive, hands-on approach you will support multiple project cross-functional research teams in the creation of innovative drug delivery methodologies. Your responsibilities will include the design, and development of innovative drug delivery technologies as well as subsequent testing of technology in vitro and relevant preclinical models to support proof of concept and feasibility. The candidate's responsibilities will include identification of new product opportunities and collaborate internally (with other J&J groups) or externally with academic groups.

He/she will provide direction and guidance in his/her field of expertise to other drug delivery scientists. The candidate should have a hands-on approach to solving problems and be comfortable as a team member or as well as a project leader. The candidate should be a creative thinker and experimentalist who thrives in innovative problem solving leading to IP generation and product concepts. This research role will create and translate drug enhanced devices into working prototypes to enable translation into products in support of the ATRM business goals and overall mission.QualificationsPhD degree in chemistry, biomaterials, biomedical, chemical, materials, or electrical engineering or related technical fields, with minimum of 7 yrs prior industrial experience, preferably in the medical or healthcare industry.

The successful candidate will be proficient in at least two or more of the following areas: drug enhanced devices, pharmaceutics' (proteins and small molecules) formulation, assays, and methods of quantitation and characterization, controlled release technology, polymers, biomaterials. Familiarity with formulation technology such as utility of hydrogels, emulsions, nanosuspensions, various delivery systems such as parenteral, inhaled as well as topical as well as microparticle and nanoparticle preparation is highly desired. Excellent data analysis skills, are required. You must have the ability to work independently in a creative, proactive manner to apply scientific curiosity and innovative problem solving to generate product concepts and intellectual property across multiple project teams within a regulated medical research environment.

Must work effectively in a team environment and in a multi-disciplinary matrix style organization. Must be proficient in Microsoft Word, Excel and PowerPoint. Excellent written and oral communications skills are a must.
