Job Posting Summary

The Institute of Arctic Biology is seeking motivated undergraduate students and recent graduates to perform field and laboratory work in the nutritional ecology of wildlife. This project evaluates the quantity and quality food available to arctic caribou. Duties include both collection of plants on the North Slope and laboratory analyses of those plants at UAF.

Knowledge, skills and abilities required for this position.

Knowledge of wildlife ecology, chemistry; data management; and basic computer skills Skills in data management; Microsoft products (Excel, Word); working independently; attention to detail; and working in a research environment Ability to interact effectively with research personnel and members of the public; keep accurate and complete records; maintain good attitude; and work as a team member.

Typical education or training required for this position (including licenses).

Major in biological or natural sciences (completed introductory chemistry or introductory biology with experience in laboratory setting).

Length of time and type of experience required for this position.

Approximately six months working in a laboratory environment or field research in Alaska.

Preferred knowledge, skills or abilities for this position.

Experience with laboratory analysis and outdoor research is preferred.
