1. JOB PURPOSE
Manages systems software. Provides technical support in developing, maintaining, installing, and using operating systems and subsystems for mission critical systems.
2. JOB FUNCTIONS
Create, install, and maintain system software on mission critical systems. Tune systems for optimal performance. track capacity, monitor systems and build automated alerts with appropriate notification levels. Ensure system stability. E/35%
Train and advise less skilled systems programmers and provide expert technical assistance for others. E/20%
Collaborate and liaise with other units and serve as a technical resource and subject matter expert. E/20%
Serve in on-call rotation. Follow industry standard best practices and CCIT policies and procedures. E/15%
RESEARCH AND DEVELOPMENT
Contribute to research and development projects as required. E/10%
A high school diploma and experience in the modification and maintenance of system programs, the design and development of system software or the testing and debugging of system software. A bachelor's degree in computer science or a related field may be substituted for required work experience.
PREFERRED IN ADDITION TO THE MINIMUM:
BS in computer Science or related field and 6 years experience performing UNIX and/ or Linux
system administration in a complex environment. Or equivalent combination of education and
experience. Knowledge of UNIX and/or Linux operating system.
Experience with VMware in a enterprise environment. Working knowledge of MySQL or Oracle
DBMS would be a plus.
PAY & WORK SCHEDULE:
Standard Hrs: 37.5; Band: 07 ($ 46,169.00 - $ 85,417.00)
The employee is extremely responsible and requires only general direction.
Some overnight travel. Subject to periodic on call duty and work outside of regular business
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS & ABILITIES:
Extensive knowledge of Linux, UNIX, and related technologies. Ability to administer and
ensure proper operation, function, and performance of system software. RHCT, RHCE, or similar certifications highly desirable. Good scripting, programming, and automation abilities. Ability to think critically. Excellent problem solving skills. Knowledge of and ability to follow industry best practices.
Ability to develop and maintain productive working relationships with customers and users, other technical staff, management, researchers, suppliers, and others.
The Information Technology Center (ITC) is located in the Advanced Materials Research Park in Anderson, SC.
Employees who are in time limited positions will earn one and one-quarter days of Annual and Sick Leave per month for a total of thirty (30) days per year. Eligible part-timers will earn days on a pro rata basis.
There will be no leave payout upon termination.
