The University of Arkansas for Medical Sciences (UAMS) in Little Rock invites nominations and applications for the position of Dean, College of Nursing.
The College of Nursing, UAMS, enrolls approximately 740 students and offers five distinct programs leading to the Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN), the BSN Honors Program, the BSN Completion and Articulated BSN/MNSc, BSN-Ph.D. program, the Master’s in Nursing Science (MNSc), and the Doctor of Philosophy degree. UAMS College of Nursing is the only nursing school within the state to offer the PhD program.
The Dean is the chief executive officer of the College of Nursing, defining its standard of excellence. This new Dean, building upon the College’s strong legacy in geriatric nursing excellence, will develop and implement a vision that will result in the College being viewed nationally as a leader in academic excellence. The new Dean is expected to be a prominent contributor to UAMS’s initiatives to address the state’s health care needs. The Dean reports to the Chancellor of UAMS.
The College of Nursing is one of five colleges within UAMS, which also includes the 486-bed UAMS Medical Center, the College of Medicine, College of Pharmacy, College of Health Related Professions, and the College of Public Health. UAMS, the state’s only academic health center, is also a leader in telemedicine, with a statewide network that provides high-risk maternal fetal medicine and stroke consultants throughout the state. UAMS recently received a $19.9 million Clinical and Translational Science Award (CTSA) from the National Center for Research Resources of the National Institutes of Health (NIH).
The successful candidate will be a visionary academic leader with demonstrated leadership in teaching, research, and public service. Minimum requirements include an earned doctorate in nursing or a related field; a record of distinguished teaching and research; substantial administrative experience, preferably in a research university; proven success in external fund development; and credentials that merit appointment at the rank of full professor in nursing.
