Essential Functions

Provides mechanical engineering expertise, to include but not limited to, Heating, Ventilation and Air Conditioning (HVAC), water and sewage (plumbing), fire suppression, control and alarm systems, natural gas and petroleum, oil and lubricant delivery systems, supporting the development, design and program management of facility projects to support the repair, maintenance and renovation of all facilities and infrastructure systems at Keesler AFB, MS.

Provides construction documents (drawing, specification, cost estimates and other required documents) using automated tools such as Computer Aided Design and Drafting (CADD) work processing, spreadsheet and other applicable automated systems.

Climbs ladders to access both interior and exterior area of facilities to include roofs and operating in confined spaces.

Provides comprehensive conceptual design, schematic design and design development documents.

Provides initial project scopes and estimates to programming staff.

Identifies and validates project design requirements with all project team members and applicable external organizations (safety, security, etc.) and the end user.

Assists in the planning and conceptualization of new projects/products and project/product enhancements. Assists in mechanical design meetings to prepare project plans and objectives in conjunction with business development, product support and other team members.

Develops and analyzes mechanical designs for current and conceptualized hardware, components and systems. Prepares plans and drawings using design software.

Develops qualification test procedures and performs qualification testing. Conducts testing and integration testing for functionality and limits. Examines and evaluates mechanic designs for feasibility.

Creates working prototypes for beta testing and customer demonstration. Analyzes critical areas of the design including dimensional, structural, thermal, qualification, integration, etc. to identify correct configuration, integrity and feasibility of design(s). Prepares reports of results and conclusions. Recommends and implements changes to design based on conclusion.

Assists with review of and interfaces with suppliers, vendors/contractors and cross functional teams to ensure necessary resources are available for product implementation. Provides expertise to production staff to ensure accurate production of product.

Researches new technology and/or development tools to remain informed of current technology.

Responsible to perform all assigned duties as safely and efficiently as possible to maintain a safe work environment.

Accomplishes periodic inspections, recurring maintenance requirements and associated documentation. Maintains systems to conform to written guidance and applicable changes.

Maintains required operating forms and records and assures proper use of all assigned equipment.

Responsible for on-the-job training as required.

Schedules work and performs quality assurance through job site visits.

Perform other duties as assigned in accordance with contractual, functional mission requirements.

Position is classified as mission essential and requires employee to shelter at work site and respond to disasters and other contingency operations.

Requires working scheduled and unscheduled overtime work including areas other than respective skilled trade.

Ability and willingness to work as a member of a team.
Prepares statements of work and design cost estimates for A&E services and reviews A&E proposals. Provides functional and technical design reviews, coordination and support for MILCON and projects designed and executed by other agencies.

Basic Qualifications

Bachelor's degree or equivalent of eduacation and experience.

Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering or related field preferred.

Zero or more years of experience in mechanical engineering or product design and development.

Experience working with mechanical design principles and practices.

Experience working with drawing standards including tolerances and detailed drawings.

Other Qualifications

Basic skills in computer assisted design (CAD) software such as Pro/Engineer, SolidWorks, etc.

Basic computer skills including, but not limited to, Microsoft Office Suite, computer aided engineering (CAE), and the abilityto learn USAF and Company systems.

Basic organization and time management skills.

Good oral and written communication skills to interact with customers, team members, vendors, and contractors.

Communication skills to convey design/analysis/production of products to team members, vendors, and contractors.

Ability to use common power and hand tools, as well as electrical and tolerance measuring devices and equipment for the development of prototypes.

Ability to work in a dynamic, fast-paced environment.

Professional Engineering license from the state of Mississippi or four or more years related experience is beneficial.

Familiarity with USAF Civil Engineering processes and procedures is beneficial.

Must be able to lift forty (40) pounds, climb ladders, and use required safety equipment.

Must be able to shelter at work location, respond to disasters or other contingency operations as required to meet the mission objectives (typically hurricane prepardeness and recovery).
Must be able to obtain and maintain a required secret level clearance and/or USAF driver's license.
