Cargill Corn Milling North America is a manufacturer of value-added corn and sugar based products serving the Food, Feed and Fermentation segments. From facilities in Illinois, Indiana, Iowa, Nebraska, North Dakota, Ohio, Tennessee and Texas, we provide a wide variety of products and services including high fructose corn syrup, corn syrups, dextrose syrups and sucrose that are used in an array of beverage, brewing, confectionery, food and pharmaceutical applications. We also produce a variety of innovative, dry corn ingredients that are used in cereals, snacks, breads, tortillas and animal feed applications. In addition, we produce fuel-grade ethanol and are a leading supplier of corn oil, acidulants, corn gluten meal and corn gluten feed products.
Position Overview and Principal Accountabilities:
The focus of this position to provide facility-wide coordination in all Safety and Environmental arenas including personal safety, safety system development and compliance, safety training, air, water, and waste program management as well as assisting in compliance strategies for these programs. Coordination of the facility safety and environmental data management and processes, program development and implementation. This position will influence operational decisions with regard to capital expansion, and modification to existing operations to support continued compliance with BU, Corporate and regulatory agency requirements.
45% - Support facility leadership through providing coordination and assistance to plant operations in safety and environmental compliance by ensuring proper record keeping of our requirements. Provide EH&S technical assistance to the facility.
25% - Develop, maintain, and monitor compliance tools at the facility for safety and environmental compliance and communicate and implement safety and environmental requirements/regulations for the facility to support plant operations and the business unit. Develop a sustainable and proactive Safety and Environmental compliance culture at the location.
10% - Support local BBS team through active participation in the steering team, barrier removal team and other BBS activities. Collaboration with other BU location’s BBS teams to leverage and share best practices to ensure alignment in BBS activities with BU goals.
10% - Train plant personnel on Safety and Environmental subjects and perform internal assessments of Safety and Environmental compliance systems.
10% - Implement & champion existing programs and help train and support employees with these programs.
5% - Assist in any other duties as assigned. On-call ability outside normal business hours to assist when needed.
Bachelor’s Degree in a technical discipline such as EHS, Engineering or related field
Minimum 3 years’ EHS experience in a manufacturing or processing facility
Demonstrated effective communication skills (written, verbal) with internal and external contacts; strong leadership skills in interacting and influencing individuals
Demonstrated ability to manage multiple and competing priorities, ensuring that plans, guidance and advice is accurate, timely, and effective
Proven OSHA regulation familiarization/experience such as, but not limited to PSM, process hazard analysis, hazard recognition/control, understanding of Behavior-based Safety principles and applications
Proficient computer skills (Microsoft suite – Word, Excel, Outlook, PowerPoint)
Demonstrated ability to work with large amounts of data on multiple spreadsheets including formula writing
Proven ability to lead change and influence safety culture
Demonstrated experience in developing and delivering EHS related programs and training
5 years’ experience in EHS in a manufacturing or processing facility
CSP or other EHS related certification
Six Sigma, Kaizen, Lean tools
BBS process implementation and management experience
