Provide systems administration for servers in support of Stanford University’s enterprise-wide business applications (Oracle E-Business Suite, PeopleSoft, Business Objects, and Hyperion) and related systems (Data Warehousing, Identity Management, etc.), reporting to the Systems Administration Manager of the Infrastructure and Architecture Group within Administrative Systems (AS). Install and configure operating system software and associated patches or updates. Manage file systems, monitor performance and troubleshoot alerts from commercial, open source and locally developed monitoring tools. Provide and implement monitoring processes and tools and use automated system software tools and procedures to proactively monitor, manage and report on server performance. Perform proactive fault detection and diagnostic procedures. Monitor/recommend tuning of performance of all servers. Install, configure and manage backup software for host-level backup and recovery. Perform analysis and recovery during system failures; ensuring the consistency and integrity of file systems. Manage system hardware/software configuration. Monitor vendor resources for any required operating system patches or upgrades. Monitor vendor resources for any required hardware upgrades. Manage hardware warranties. Monitor security advisories for operating system and infrastructure software, and take appropriate actions to safeguard resources. Implement security patches as needed. Monitor and ensure proper system firewall rules and security. Manage server accounts. Install firewall upgrades as required. Maintain operating system and supported software documentation. Propose hardware and software configuration and installation standards. Assist technical teams in applying best practices in securing the data and information systems under their control. Actively participate in developing, implementing, and managing network security policies, plans and procedures, including security architectures, firewall policies, intrusion detection systems, security data collection systems, and integrated security products. Participate in establishing, reviewing and maintaining University information security policies and procedures. Work closely and cooperatively with other University staff members involved with information security and privacy issues. Participate in ensuring security compliance with governmental regulatory requirements. Perform system level “housekeeping” activities to ensure systems are operating at optimal levels. Provide technical support and general troubleshooting. Support 100+ servers in a 24x7 data center. Work in a leadership capacity as a member of the Server Technology team. Coordinate hardware upgrades with hardware support vendors as needed. Develop hardware and software configuration and installation standards. Serve as a mentor to other system administrators.
• Bachelor’s degree (three or four year) in Computer Science, IT, Engineering, MIS, Commerce or Business
• 5 years experience in positions involving Unix/Linux Systems Administration in an enterprise level environment
Additional Requirements:
• 5 years experience with installing, securing and maintaining stable production, development and test infrastructures in support of ERP or similar large-scale systems, including practical experience with automated server installation, YUM and Nagios implementation
• 5 years experience with RedHat Linux and VMWare/ESX
• 5 years experience with enterprise systems management entities, including NetApp and EMC enterprise storage platform, authentication, directory services
• Proven ability to use UNIX shell, and perl programming languages to design and implement tools, utilities, and technical project solutions.
