This position requires a college education or equivalent work experience. Equivalent work experience includes a minimum of 2 or more years experience in Group Insurance; good working knowledge of Excel & Word software; and basic working knowledge of dental procedures. Desirable experience also includes an Associates Degree in Business Administration; plus 1 or more of the following coursework/study programs - Loma I & II, Associate Customer Service (ACS) Program, Associate, Insurance Agency Administration (AIAA), FLMI Designation, CEBS, and Claims Education Program – Parts C1 & C2.

External Job Description:
1. The incumbent is accountable for writing and maintaining profitable fully insured contracts by using our product flexibility to maximize financial and sales objectives by applying sound Underwriting technique appropriate to the risk being evaluated. Underwriting techniques include the ability to analyze the in-force plan design correctly; account for the geographic and demographic factors accurately; and consider actuarial and case-specific statistics plus Company policies and administrative practices, as well recognizing and complying with as state and federal statutes.
2. The incumbent must be able to explain and justify their decisions to the Field by means of oral or written communication and provide education and explanation as needed to the Field and other Underwriting or Actuarial associates.
3. The incumbent expected to realize a sense of urgency to deadlines established by the department, new business RFP requirements, contract renewal dates and/or state laws.
4. The incumbent is accountable for updates, additions and reviews of the Underwriting e-Manual as directed by the Group Underwriting Management Team and to stay abreast of current and new compliance requirements.
