Primary Role
    Creates and executes project work plans and revises as appropriate to meet changing needs and requirements. Manages day-to-day operational aspects of a project and scope. Effectively applies our methodology and enforces project standards. Prepares for engagement reviews and quality assurance procedures. Minimizes our exposure and risk on project. Partners with both internal and external USCO stakeholders to deliver against agreed upon deliverables.


55% Program Management Operations
  • Develop and incorporate a formal and uniform project management structure in-line with corporate project management philosophies

  • Initiate and specify key performance indicators (KPIs) and tracking components to systematically evaluate project success rates within the USCO group as well as Project Manager performance

  • Establish a central database for USCO project information including product summary, project plan, project reports, risk profile, Pharm Tech resource needs etc.

  • Manage key strategic projects within Shire that require director level expertise

  • Communicate status profiles for all managed projects within USCO to senior and executive management, where necessary

  • Provide project management expertise to USCO departmental projects within Integrated Marketing, Sales Operations, Marketing Operations, Sales Training, Pro Ed, Business Processes

  • Assist in due diligence activities that require project management and implementation

  • Lead key strategic USCO project team(s) as appropriate/when necessary

  • Ensure appropriate resource planning and prioritization

  • Understand and adhere to FDA, DEA, OIG and appropriate state regulations, and internal regulatory affairs and compliance guidelines

  • Collaborate with other teams within USCO, IS and the business to understand their operational support needs and to ensure business processes and infrastructure is developed in an effective, quality and compliant way.

10% Strategic Leadership

  • Provide Strategic direction and leadership in the development of a highly skilled, passionate, proactive and professional team which focuses on identifying ways to drive business growth through anticipating customer needs, delivers quality innovative effective solutions

  • Ensure objectivity with assessments and solutions

  • Continually evaluate and monitor market conditions and adjust strategies accordingly

  • Develop annual and long range department strategic plans which cascade from corporate and USCO strategic plans

  • Focus on growing the business using innovative and strategic approaches; Measure team's effectiveness in assisting in growing the business

  • Assess right approaches to the business needs based on a broader perspective of current and future needs

  • Ensure Compliance

  • Maintain current and forward thinking industry perspective and knowledge of best practice and benchmarks and external trends; Ensure appropriate benchmarking is done and stay current on industry trends

  • Benchmark department services and consistently evaluate modifications to plans to help grow the business

  • Ensure strong strategic partnership with customers and peers

  • Ensure departmental annual objectives are prioritized properly and are met in a quality manner according to pre-set expectations

15% Financial Leadership

  • Ensure project plans and budgets are derived from sound assessment of business current and future needs. Ensure they are well thought out and plan effectively department budgets and other partner teams such as IS. Manage all budgets (and partner budgets) effectively and ensure cost effective spending approaches

  • Ensure sound management of company funds. Project over runs should not occur.

  • Ensure ROI is considered with business recommendations and solutions

20% Operational Management

  • Ensure strong planning and project management, using consistent tools and approaches across the team; Ensure work is tracked, prioritized and resourced effectively

  • Ensure an integrated, operationally sound approach to problem solving and solutions development (thinking broadly with a company focus and not an individual functional silo when developing solutions)

  • Ensure strong prioritization management of work, resources and funds based on key department objectives

  • Measure and track team performance and report on results vs. Expectations.

  • Ensure operations are effective and efficient

  • Ensure Quality deliverables according to expectations

Education & Experience Requirements

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree is required with strong program/project management background as well as a business process definition and/or improvement focus; an MBA is preferred

  • Must have at least 5 years experience of successfully managing and implementing large-scale cross-functional initiatives with a minimum of five years experience in the commercialization of pharmaceutical products and services

  • In-depth knowledge of pharmaceutical marketing and sales business processes

  • Thorough understanding of FDA regulations and industry standards is preferred

  • Project Management certification would be advantageous

  • Experience in applying systematic and rigorous analytics methods to improve business processes is preferred

  • Experience initiating, scoping, budgeting, implementing, and completing major projects with budgets over $1MM is required

  • Direct experience with Microsoft Project and resource capacity analysis techniques is required

  • Time-awareness and ability to challenge assumptions in order to optimize timelines, cost and quality is a requirement
