Responsibilities
As a Sustainability Specialist, you will ensure that New Balance sustainability and environmental strategies and programs are developed, executed, and maintained in a way that continuously strengthens the environmental performance of the company’s internal business operations and its global supply chain. You will work cross-functionally to develop, champion, and implement action plans and roadmaps for sustainability with factories, vendors, suppliers targeting areas such as energy and waste reduction, water usage and treatment, and chemical management. You will engage stakeholders and foster effective forms of cooperation and collaboration with other industry players. In this role, you will create and maintain supplier scorecards to drive measurable improvements. You will be responsible for the expansion of New Balance’s environmental data systems and tracking tools. You will serve as subject matter expert on environmental sustainability in the supply chain. You will conduct benchmarking and other research to inform decisions and recommendations.
Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in environmental science, industrial engineering, business, or other relevant field of study. Advanced degree is preferred.
Must have 3-5 years of experience managing environmental programs in apparel/footwear or a related industry.
Strong background in environmental law, environmental and social responsibility, and/or environmental management in public, private, or non-governmental sectors.
Excellent analytical and research skills with the ability to investigate and process information quickly to drive decision-making.
Project management and problem solving skills.
Advanced Excel skills required and a knowledge of environmental data management systems desired.
Superior communication and presentation skills are essential.
Ability to connect with people and management styles across cultures.
Domestic and international travel required – 15 to 25 percent.
