Has successfully passed Board of Registration in Nursing Examination and is licensed in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts. Current CPR certification required.
Experience: Minimum 1-to-5 years or more experience. Cardiac/Telemetry experience preferred
Education: Associate Degree or Baccalaureate Degree in Nursing.
Responsible for the provision of nursing care to assigned patients in accordance with current BH Standards of Care. Administers and monitors patient response to therapeutic interventions. The nurse demonstrates knowledge and application of the nursing process as it relates to patients and families. The nurse is accountable for professional nursing practice. He/she collaborates with health team members, patients/families in the provision of care. Delegates to and provides direct supervision to other health team members as appropriate in the implementation of the patient care plan. The nurse acts as an advocate for patients/families/significant others. Also, he/she practices within accepted ethical and legal parameters of nursing. This description covers the essential functions of the position. Incumbent is expected to perform similar and related duties as assigned.
The Clinical Nurse Recognition Program (CNRP) for Professional Nurses at Baystate Medical Center and Baystate Mary Lane Hospital is a system designed to provide promotional opportunities for Registered Nurses involved in direct patient care. The professional growth of nurses is stimulated and motivated when increasing levels of proficiency in clinical practice are recognized. An integral component of the program is to articulate and describe the clinical practice of Registered Nurses from the novice to expert levels. As excellence in clinical practice is achieved, quality patient outcomes will be evident. Recognition of achievement in clinical practice will serve to motivate and direct the performance of the professional nurse.
Baystate Medical Center and Baystate Mary Lane Hospital recognize five levels of proficiency of Registered Nurses providing direct patient care. These levels are synonymous with Benner's work of Entry, Competent, Proficient, Advanced and Expert Practitioner. Promotion up the CNRP is an ongoing and sustaining process where by each level of practice is based on maintaining proficiency in the skills of all previous levels. At the higher levels of the CNRP, expertise becomes visible in areas of leadership, evidence based practice, quality improvement, and education. The criteria based assessment will identify the responsibilities and standards for nurses from a new graduate to an expert level of practice.
