Technical Skills/Computer: Thorough knowledge of Oracle, DB2/UDB, UNIX, LINUX.

Education/Experience: BS in Computer Systems with 2-5 years of experience or 8-10 years operational relational database work experience.
Provide Database Administration support in Open System Database environment. Must Have includes extensive database analysis skills in support of Oracle DBMS on HP-UX and LINUX & DB2/UDB on AIX.
Provide 24/7 operational support of Relational Database Management Systems (Oracle and DB2/UDB) on Open Systems Database Platforms (HP-UX, AIX, and LINUX). Work closely with application developers, Tier1 (Service Desk), other Tier2 (Operational), and Tier 3 (Engineering) teams. Perform periodic oncall duties as required as part of the Enterprise Data Administration team.
Customers: Application Services staff that develop or maintain systems using the Oracle Database and/or DB2/UDB RDMS.
Partners: Database Engineering, Enterprise Architecture, ECPG, Project Management, Technical Architecture, Middleware, other Tier-1 and Tier-2 Operations departments in the MCNC Data Center.
Measurements of Success:
Able to provide on-call 24/7/365 database incident management support for production database and application related issues. Provide root cause determination in accordance with established problem management principles. Support development and test activities, including performance monitoring/tuning, size estimating, and SQL tuning.
Areas of Responsibility:
Oracle and UDB on UNIX/LINUX. Familiarity with Automated Space Management (ASM) and Oracle Internet Directory (OID) technologies.
Thorough knowledge of backup, recovery, database/application performance tuning, and related infrastructure diagnostics.
