Cedar Crest College invites applications for the inaugural Hazel and Walter May Endowed Chair for Excellence in Nursing. Created through the foresight and generosity of Hazel and Walter May, the primary purpose of the Chair is to emphasize not only the continued importance of nursing but also the development of nursing education and administration in the belief that the profession of nursing is enhanced by the liberal arts which help individuals to organize their experience and to deepen their understanding.
The holder of the Chair will be an experienced nurse researcher with significant accomplishments as evidenced by a well-developed program of research and history of significant and sustained extramural funding, as well as a notable scholar with an exemplary record of scholarly work, including publications in influential, peer-reviewed journals, and demonstrated excellence in teaching and mentoring. Committed to maintaining nationally visible achievements in the field of nursing, the Chair will possess an established record of teaching, scholarship and service at both the undergraduate and graduate levels and evidence of visionary leadership in nursing on the national and/or international stage.
Critical characteristics of the holder of the Chair include the demonstration of innovation and creativity in pedagogy across the nursing curriculum highlighting the integral concepts of a liberal arts foundation, as well as teaching excellence while preparing nurses to lead in a global society. The holder of the Chair will also provide research opportunities for students and faculty, consistent with the mission and vision of Cedar Crest College and the Nursing program and lead a sustainable research program in an area that can attract extra-mural funding. A successful candidate will model visionary leadership in nursing education and administration and build valued connections between Cedar Crest College, the Nursing program, and vital partners throughout the community. The essence of the Chair is not mere performance but rather excellence.
As a distinguished, senior-level faculty member with experience and accomplishments commensurate with appointment at the rank of Associate Professor or Professor eligible for tenure, the holder of the Chair will be a licensed RN eligible for licensure in Pennsylvania, and hold an earned research doctorate (PhD or equivalent) in nursing or a related field.
This position, reporting to the Chair of the Nursing Department, is a 12 month, full-time position and is anticipated to begin in June/July 2013.
