Position Summary:
Performs hardware support and repairs for user departments. Resolves hardware, software, and communication problems/conflicts/defects. Will interact with customers frequently, recommend and purchase inventory, and control supplies and/or parts. DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES: 1. Investigates, analyzes, and resolves hardware and associated software and communications problems on university computer systems; performs complex hardware repairs and maintenance on a wide range of pc-based computers and peripherals. 2. Provides advanced hardware technical assistance and support; troubleshoots and resolves system hardware, software, and communications failures and conflicts. 3. Evaluates existing computer systems hardware, and performs system upgrades; based on customer needs, customizes and tests computer systems, and resolves configuration conflicts and errors. 4. Installs, integrates, and configures new computer systems and hardware for users. 5. Researches, analyzes, and recommends appropriate computer hardware for customized computer configurations. 6. Reviews, prioritizes, and processes problem reports; documents the progress of projects. 7. Trains and supervises student employees, as appropriate. 8. Maintains a high level quality of customer service standards in dealing with and responding to questions. 9. Performs miscellaneous job-related duties as assigned. Position requires: a) Knowledge of maintenance and repair of computer hardware. b) Investigating and resolving problems, and/or repairing as specified by work orders. c) Performing system upgrades, and other customized configurations; and d) Installing, integrating and configuring new systems and hardware for users. e) existing knowledge of many UNM-utilized systems and software (such as, Symantec Ghost, WinPE, imagex, webmail, banner, WebCT, Help.UNM, Symantec Endpoint Protection Client or Server, linux-based programs, SAS, Pro-E, other pod software, etc.). f) advanced knowledge of the Microsoft Windows operating system ? Specifically Windows 7 and/or Windows Server 2008 (group policy, administrative tools, domain functions, etc.). g) knowledge of the Apple OS X operating system.

1. Ability to perform advanced, complex repairs and upgrades on a wide variety of computers and peripherals. 2. Knowledge of a wide range of computer systems software, applications, hardware, and communications. -specifically, some of the software mentioned above 3. Records maintenance skills. 4. Knowledge of customer service standards and procedures. 5. Ability to simultaneously coordinate and complete multiple projects. 6. Knowledge of advanced computer troubleshooting techniques. 7. Ability to diagnose the nature and extent of a wide range of computer problems. 8. Ability to install and configure computer systems, hardware, and peripherals. 9. Ability to make administrative/procedural decisions and judgments. 10. Advanced customer service skill/experience. The ability to clearly communicate with customers and quickly extract pertinent information regarding an issue.
