Requirements:
A one year Genetic Counselor Fellowship is being offered in the Comprehensive Lysosomal Diseases Center (CLDC), in the Section of Metabolic Diseases at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP).The Fellowship will be available to a genetic counselor who has just graduated or will graduate in the current academic year from an accredited Genetic Counseling program with a Master’s Degree in Genetic Counseling.

Mandatory Requirements:
All CHOP employees who work in a patient building or who provide patient care are required to receive an annual influenza vaccine unless they are granted a medical or religious exemption.

Job Description:
A one year Genetic Counselor Fellowship is being offered in the Comprehensive Lysosomal Diseases Center (CLDC), in the Section of Metabolic Diseases at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP).The Fellowship will be available to a genetic counselor who has just graduated or will graduate in the current academic year from an accredited Genetic Counseling program with a Master’s Degree in Genetic Counseling.
The aim of the fellowship is to give additional training and exposure to the many aspects of diagnosis, management, surveillance and clinical research in the CLDC. This is a clinical fellowship designed to expose the fellow to maximal and optimal clinical experience with LSD. The duration of the fellowship will be one calendar year, starting in June 2013.
Responsibilities include providing comprehensive genetic counseling services to patients and families with lysosomal and metabolic diseases in an active clinical setting. In addition to clinical responsibilities, the genetic counseling fellow will gain exposure to aspects of lysosomal storage disease coordination including disease registry data management and entry as well as care coordination. Clinical research opportunities pertaining to lysosomal storage diseases are also available.
The fellow will also have the opportunity to participate and attend weekly genetics seminars facilitated through CHOP and the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania, weekly interactive case discussions, and weekly individual mentoring sessions with senior genetic counselors.
The fellowship will offer a stipend equivalent to the salary, with benefits, of a recent graduate
of a genetic counseling program. This will include an allowance for the fellow to attend one
Lysosomal Storage Disease Conference.
