The City of Coconut Creek is currently recruiting for a Part-time Bus Driver and Substitute Bus Drivers . Part-Time Bus Driver: Hourly salary: $13.30. This is a year-round position with limited benefits. Substitute Bus Driver: Hourly salary: $13.30. This is a Year-Round On-Call position and does not provide any benefits. Hours of work: Up to 29 hours per week. Hours vary depending upon schedule. Must be available Monday through Saturday. May be required to work holidays during which City services are operational. Substitute Bus Drivers may be notified about working within less than 24 hours. Drives, maintains and fuels diesel buses, and sedans to provide service to patrons of the community transportation program.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Drives, maintains and fuels diesel buses, and sedans.
Performs pre-trip and post-trip inspections.
Cleans interior and exterior of vehicles including washing, vacuuming, sweeping, mopping, and deodorizing.
Performs basic maintenance which includes inflating tires and adding fluids as needed.
Communicates mechanical service needs to management.
Completes paperwork as required.
Records passengers upon boarding and departure.
Assists passengers as appropriate.
Operates buses according to schedule.
Assists disabled passengers including, but not limited to, loading and unloading passengers in wheelchairs.
Attends bus driver and other related training.
Promotes positive passenger relations through excellent customer service.
Conveys passenger feedback to management and other appropriate parties.
Distributes and collects on-board passenger surveys.
Monitors cleaning supply inventory.
Uses City issued radio and/or cellular phones as required.
Communicates route problems and concerns to management.
Makes mandatory ADA announcements.
May be required to work during special City events, senior and/or youth trips.
Performs other related duties as assigned.
Punctuality, regular attendance, courtesy and professionalism are essential functions of this position.
Must possess a High School Diploma, GED or equivalent.
Must possess at least one (1) year of experience driving a passenger bus.
Must possess a current valid State of Florida Commercial Driver License (CDL), with passenger endorsement (If the commercial license was issued by a state other than Florida, applicant selected for hire must obtain a State of Florida Class CDL with passenger endorsement prior to employment.)
Must possess a good overall driving record.
May not have any traffic citations during the previous three years from date of application.
Previous community bus program or county bus driving experience preferred.
Previous driving experience on a fixed route with time points is preferred.
Must have a thorough understanding of Florida State and local traffic laws and defensive driving methods.
Must be able to read and follow road maps and bus routes.
Must have excellent customer service skills and interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate effectively and courteously.
Must be willing and able to assist disabled passengers.
Must be able to communicate effectively with diverse groups of passengers.
Must pass a biennial physical examination and is subject to random drug testing.
Must become familiar with connecting transportation services.
Must abide by City policies and procedures.
Must abide by the Florida Department of Transportation Rule Chapter 14-90 (Florida Administrative Code).
Must be able to read and abide by the System Safety Program Plan and Security Program Plan established for the City's bus program.
Applicant's DOT drug and alcohol testing history with previous employers within two (2) years of application may not contain any violations or testing refusals.
Eligibility List Criteria: An eligibility list shall be valid for six months (may be extended up to two years at the City’s discretion), or until the list is abolished, whichever comes first. The list is formed based on applicants who meet the minimum qualifications. Applicants on the eligibility list will be given consideration for each vacancy.
