The Science Business and Technology division within Higher Education has an opening for an Acquisitions editor for the Marketing list. The Acq Editor builds partnerships and business relationships with other content providers in order to acquire content for multimedia titles or online products by performing the following duties personally or through subordinate supervisors.
Responsible for the management of new works and revisions as assigned and in consultation with the Editor in Chief. Assist in the reviewing process, and help develop the author’s vision for the work. Reinforce manuscript schedule and deadlines. Serve as the main contact for assigned authors. Solicit, analyze and recommend proposals for new works.
Establish the financial base for selected works by creating P&L’s, Book Data Sheets and researching past sales models. Monitor budget to achieve financial goals and monitor production schedule.
Work with assigned authors to develop appropriate supplements, online support materials and product packaging concepts with a goal of adding value and stimulating sell through. Work with marketing and sales to coordinate information on selected projects and to handle requests for support. Travel to colleges and universities, conventions and sales conferences to talk to faculty and others regarding market developments.
2-4 years of sales experience in higher ed publishing required
Bachelor’s Degree (B.A.) from four-year college or university;
