Role SR LINUX ADMINISTRATOR-SYSTEM INSTALLATION Worksite Address MassDOT Registry of Motor Vehicles, 25 Newport Avenue Ext. North Quincy, MA 02171 Contract Length 1 Year (renewable) Hours per Week 40 Summary of the Position This position is with the Massachusetts Department of Transportation (MassDOT) Registry of Motor Vehicles Modernization (RMVM) Program. The RMVM is searching for a talented senior Linux administrator with experience installing and configuring Web Service Applications (e.g. IBM WebSphere, Oracle WebLogic, Informatica, etchellip) to join its new Service Delivery Team.

A key component of this position is that this person becomes part of a team that will support and maintain the RMVM new licensing and registration systems put in place as part of the upgrade for Automated License and Registration System (ALARS) and provide strategic guidance to the program team, senior management, vendors, MassDOT and the Commonwealth Information Technology Division (ITD).

This role will act as the main point of contact for RMVM development projects with respect to Linux and SystemApplication Configuration Management. This position is part of the established governance structure managed by the RMVM Executive Program Manager. Primary Responsibilities This role will be engaged in designing and supporting a 247 Red Hat server infrastructure and will have responsibility for engineering, operating, maintaining, and supporting the overall Red Hat server architecture supporting the new licensing and registration solution. The RMVM solution is a mixture of Oracle SOAESB (Web Logic), Informatica Data Management, and IBM identity (ISIMISAM) and software development (Rational) applications.

The individual will also provide support for implementation, troubleshooting and updates of applications on these servers. This role provides migration support as the RMVM builds out and transitions legacy applications to the new Oracle technology based applications on Red Hat Enterprise Linux platforms. This position will involve interaction with other entities such as MassDOT IT and Commonwealth of Mass ITD teams and management. Responsibilities include but are not limited to Managing system infrastructure and related processes, including the virtualization environment on VMware platform as well as, a.

Account management, softwareOS updates and patching, OS installations. b. Web Service application installation and maintenance (e.g. Subversion, Web Logic, Web Sphere, Tomcat, etc.hellip) c.

Installation and configuration of new application, web and database servers and server decommissioning activities. d. Responding to Service Desk incidents regarding end user problems associated with the systems. e.

Assisting developers with isolation and resolution of application issues which are service, operating system or hardware based. f. Performance analysis and tuning, specifically in a Java, SAN, VMWare environment. g.

Automation of systems management tasks (e.g. Shell scripting and Puppet). h. System and application monitoring and alerting.

i. Ensuring network and system security. Qualifications Education, Skills and Competencies Experience should include but not limited to a. BS in Computer Science (or equivalent), relevant professional certifications or proven equivalent work experience b.

5 - 8 years of recent, real-world experience working with Linux in a large, complex data center environment. c. Experienced working on and within a VMware’s cloud environment. d.

Experience with multiple distributions including Red Hat, SUSE, and Ubuntu. e. Experience with enterprise Storage Area Network (SAN) technologies such as EMC, Hitachi or NetApp. f.

Good understanding of disk management – LVM, RAID, FDISK. g. Experience working with automation and deployment tools (e.g. Puppet, Chef, andor Cfengine, etc..).

h. Strong background working with networkweb service applications (e.g. JBoss, WebSphere, Web Logic, apache, tomcat, etchellip). i.

Deep understanding of TCPIP all the way from hardware-layer up to common services and routing principles. j. Ability to work collaboratively with teammates working in a mixed OS environment-enterprise-scale data center. k.

Ability to identify and describe problems and take initiative to engage others in collaborative solution-seeking. l. Be eager to learn new technologies, take personal responsibility and ownership for technical projects. m.

Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and be able to adapt to changing business needs. Strong follow up skills and problem solving ability a must. n. Strong focus on performance, quality, and scalability.

o. Experience working with Cloud-based services and virtualization technologies such as Amazon Web Services and VMware-VCenter. p. Experience with script development and maintenance is required.

q. Excellent documentation skills. r. Ability to learn quickly and perform under extreme conditions.

s. Technical expertise in troubleshooting and resolving network and server infrastructure problems. t. Knowledge of scheduling jobs and automation.

u. UNIXLinux security, compliance and regulation experience required. v. Prior experience on projects with federal, state or local government is desirable, but not required.
