The Kinross Kettle River-Buckhorn Operation is located in the State of Washington. The operation mines and processes ore from eight separate deposits in four local production centers. The Buckhorn mine continues to be a flagship operation for the company, having being highly awarded for leadership in low-impact mine development. Job Description
Work as part of a team to provide complete environmental services for a mining operation and ancillary facilities. Under the direction of the Environmental Sr. Environmental Engineer, ensures that sampling, monitoring, inspections and data management are conducted in accordance with company requirements and in compliance with local, state, and federal regulations.
Essential Job Function s
Effectively communicate with site personnel to maximize informational exchange and environmental compliance.
Conduct safe, efficient, reliable and accurate sampling and monitoring in accordance with company and regulatory requirements. To include data entry, and reporting.
Conduct regular and frequent inspections of company operations to ensure compliance. Ensure that departmental and company goals are achieved by participating in short and long-range planning activities. Provide environmental awareness training to site employees. Conduct all activities in accordance with environmental and safety rules and regulations.
Primary responsibility for all aspects of environmental sampling and monitoring, including, but not limited to air, water, and soil. Documentation, data entry, and reporting. Provide assistance in support of departmental programs, including, but not limited to:
Environmental management system
Air quality program
Solid and hazardous waste management, including pollution prevention and waste minimization programs
SARA Title III, Toxic Release Inventory
Reclamation and closure
Water Pollution Control permitting
Potable and waste water systems
Water management programs, including discharge
International Cyanide Management Code
Materials management program
Right-of-Way and Special Use Permits
Radioactive materials program
Wildlife protection and management
Water rights management
Storm water management
Spill Prevention Control and Countermeasure planning
Perform other duties as assigned
Perform work in an efficient, accurate, and timely manner.
Perform all duties as assigned while maintaining a positive professional attitude and maintaining professional confidentiality. W ork independently and be self-motivated.
Effectively interface and interact with site personnel and agencies. Work in a safe manner and adhere to Kinross safety and environmental standards.
College degree desired but not required.
Previous experience performing monitoring and sampling preferred.
Valid driver’s license .
Mathematical knowledge and ability at an algebraic level.
Moderate degree of mechanical ability and troubleshooting skills (e.g. determine cause of equipment malfunction and conduct minor repairs using hand tools or items such as battery replacement).
Good verbal and written communication skills.
Able to spend significant portion of workday outside in the field in a production environment and work overtime as needed.
Able to work outside in all weather conditions on a regular basis.
Able to meet requirements for and use respirator.
Able to lift and carry up to 50 lbs over short distances.
Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel required. Microsoft Access and Project proficiency preferred.
