Responsibilities

As a member of the BHS Health Information Management Department in Louisville the person in this role will function in a fully accountable role with respect to directing the operations of all hospitals and physician office practice transcription activities within Baptist Healthcare System to ensure that System goals and objectives are met.
- Responsible for directing, planning and managing all services related to hospital and ambulatory transcription workflow, productivity, education, training, quality monitoring and performance for the hospital and physician practices and clinics through Nuance and Allscripts.
- Maintains accountability for all aspects of medical and ambulatory transcription through Nuance and Allscripts.
- Direct the hospital and ambulatory transcriptionists in maintaining quality and quantity standards of work performed while managing report turnaround times.
- Ensures that quality and accurate dictated medical, radiology and ambulatory reports are turned around timely.
- Oversees training and ongoing feedback to all medical and ambulatory transcriptionists regarding individual work performance and functional objectives.
- Works with the transcription staff to ensure that hospital and ambulatory turnaround times and quality are monitored and maintained at a level determined by the transcription director and physician office practice manager and senior management.
- Ensure the Quality Transcription Reviewers coordinate education / training activities for all medical and ambulatory transcriptionists and support staff. ¿
Maintain a current knowledge of transcription rules, Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity (AHDI) guidelines, Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services (CMS) and Joint Commission regulations and updates, and all aspects of hospital and physician office operations that could potentially affect medical and ambulatory transcription. ¿
Identify problem areas, analyzes the situation and assists the HIM director in developing and implementing process improvements. ¿
Assist in the design, development, transition and implementation of a System-wide transcription team, including physician office and hospital transcription ¿
Responsible for ensuring that all policies and procedures are consistently and uniformly applied. Review all existing/new policies and ensure communication of expectations and requirements to employees. ¿
Responsible for training and maintaining medical and ambulatory transcription staff. ¿
Serve as a key resource for Baptist Health department managers, staff, physicians and administration to obtain information on accurate and ethical transcription and documentation standards, guidelines and regularity requirements. ¿
Establish and maintain open communication with physicians, interdisciplinary care team members, peers, the public and department managers. ¿
Promote corporate integrity through compliance with the BHS Corporate Responsibility Program.

Qualifications

- Minimum 5 years medical transcription experience in an acute care hospital, required
- Supervisory experience, required
- Knowledge of AHDI transcription guidelines as published in the Book of Style for Medical Transcription
- Knowledge of medical terminology
- Ability to complete assignments in a timely manner despite fluctuations in workflow
- Strong interpersonal, communication and listening skills is required
