Our Medical Center is located in Providence, RI with outpatient clinics located in Middletown, RI, Hyannis and New Bedford, MA. We provide high quality comprehensive outpatient and inpatient care to veterans residing in Rhode Island and southeastern Massachusetts. This Psychologist (Chief, Post-Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) Clinic) position is located in Mental Health and Behavioral Sciences Service and is not a bargaining unit position.

One position to be announced across the Nursing, Psychologist, Physician, and Social Worker occupations.

**Your salary and grade will be determined by the Professional Standards Board (PSB). The PSB is a peer review process. The PSB will review your individual qualifications, education, professional training/internship(s) and professional experience to determine the most appropriate salary and grade based on your individual accomplishments.**

This is a permanent full-time position. The work schedule is: Monday - Friday 8:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m.
    KEY REQUIREMENTS
  • You must be a US citizen.
  • Full unrestricted Licensure required.
  • Subject to a background/suitability investigation.
  • Must pass a pre-employment physical examination.
  • Designated and random drug testing may be required.
  • Must be proficient in spoken and written English.

DUTIES:
  • Provides oversight of day to day functions and leadership to the staff within the PTSD Clinic which includes the following: Military Sexual Trauma (MST), Operation Enduring Freedom (OEF), Operation Iraqi Freedom (OIF), Operation New Dawn (OND), Women's PTSD programs.
  • Supervises, directs and coordinates the clinical staff and is responsible for providing the professional, administrative, and technical supervision necessary for accomplishing the work of a large and complex section made up of multiple clinical programs.
  • Provides administrative leadership to plan, develop, implement and oversee clinical services and programs for patients that have a high degree of clinical complexity.
  • Develops and implements relevant policies and procedures for delivering PTSD treatment services.
  • Provides comprehensive mental and behavioral health care to patients with chronic and acute dysfunction.
  • Reports to the Chief of Mental Health and Behavioral Sciences Services or designee, but practices independently, exercising initiative and independent judgment in day-to-day activities.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: (from VHA Qualification Standards)

Basic Requirements:

Education: Doctoral degree in psychology from a graduate program in psychology accredited by the American Psychologist Association (APA). The specialty area of the degree must be consistent with the assignment for which the applicant is to be employed.

AND

Successful completion of a professional psychology internship training program that has been accredited by APA. Exceptions: new VHA psychology internship programs that are in the process of applying for APA accreditation are acceptable in fulfillment of the internship requirement, provided such programs were sanctioned by the VHA Central Office of Academic Affiliations at the time that the individual was an intern and (2) VHA facilities who offered full one-year pre-doctoral internships prior to PL 96-151 (pre-1979) are considered to be acceptable in fulfillment of the internship requirement.

Licensure: Current, full and unrestricted license to practice psychology at the doctoral level in a State, Territory, Commonwealth of the United States (e.g., Puerto Rico), or the District of Columbia.

English Proficiency: Providers appointed to direct patient care positions must be proficient in spoken and written English as required by 38 U.S.C. 7402 (d) and 7407(d).

Specialized Experience: One year of professional psychologist experience equivalent to a GS-13 level in the Federal Service. The experience must have been gained in a professional program concerned with psychological diagnosis, intervention and behavioral health related to Post-traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD) that qualifies him/her to provide advice and consultation to professionals representing a variety of disciplines.

  • Subject to satisfactory completion of our credentialing process.
  • Selectee will be presented to a professional standards board to determine final grade and salary.
