Duties and Responsibilities
  • Responsibilities include coordinating our composition program, active scholarship, continuing professional development, and participation in faculty governance. The successful candidate will help with creating and delivering lower and upper-division rhetoric and composition courses; in addition, the faculty member will have the opportunity to develop courses that include writing for emergent technologies. This position requires collaboration with administrators and faculty throughout UH West O‘ahu.
  • Minimum Qualifications
  • Earned doctorate degree from an accredited college or university in Rhetoric and Composition or closely related field.
  • Evidence of active research agenda; evidence of excellent teaching; knowledge of administering a Writing Program.
  • Associate Professor Minimum Qualifications
  • In addition to the minimum qualifications above, five (5) years of full-time college or university teaching at the rank of Assistant Professor (teaching relevant courses in Rhetoric and Composition or closely related disciplines).
  • Evidence of publications in peer-reviewed journals in the area of Rhetoric and Composition or closely related field.
  • Desirable Qualifications
  • Minimum of 2 years experience administering a Writing Program and experience with budgets.
  • Ability to integrate technology in composition courses.
  • Knowledge of Writing Across the Curriculum Programs.
  • Excellent communication and collaboration skills and demonstrated leadership.
  • Ability to interact effectively in a multicultural setting.
  • Experience teaching diverse populations.
  • Experience with assessment.
