The Sterile Processing Technician at St. Charles Health System (SCHS) is responsible for assembling case carts for surgeries, as well as cleaning, decontaminating, assembling, sterilizing, and distributing equipment and instruments used within the hospital. This position does not directly manage any caregivers.

Education: High school diploma or GED required.
Personal Protective Equipment: Must be able to wear appropriate Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) required to perform the job safely.
Experience: Experience in sterile processing, health care materials management, operating room, and/or patient care preferred.
Additional Requirements: Successful completion of Physical Capacity Evaluation (PCE) upon hire.
Continually (75% or more): Standing and walking, lifting/carrying/pushing or pulling 1-10 pounds, grasping/squeezing, use of clear and audible speaking voice and the ability to hear normal speech level.
Frequently (50%): Bending, stooping/kneeling/crouching, reaching overhead, lifting/carrying/pushing or pulling 11-25 pounds.
Occasionally (25%): climbing ladder/step-stool (varies by area), lifting/carrying/pushing or pulling 25-50 pounds, ability to hear whispered speech level.
Rarely (10%): Sitting, climbing stairs, keyboard operation and operation of a motor vehicle.
Exposure to Elemental Factors
Occasionally (25%): Heat, cold, wet/slippery area, noise, dust, vibration, uneven surface and chemical solution.
