Scalability Architect
Jirafe - New York, NY
Overview
Jirafe is looking for a Scalability Architect to take our data store to the next level. We've started out in our first year with a service built for thousands of merchants, and millions of customer visits. As we grow from ecommerce analytics to add real time marketing intelligence, we will need to scale to hundreds of thousands of merchants and tens of billions of customer interactions. We need someone who can help guide us to this level.

Responsibilities
You will fully own the scalability of our platform, choosing the technology, architecting the solution, and leading the team responsible for its implementation.
You will work closely with product, engineering, and business development to predict future traffic growth, keeping our analysis timely and API responses snappy. We're all about removing future bottlenecks in advance.
You will be a core part of our small engineering team, and you'll be rolling up your sleeves and getting your hands dirty - writing production-ready code, conducting code reviews, debugging, and maintaining as needed.
Requirements
You've already built something highly-scalable, dealing with (at a minimum) terabytes and preferably petabytes of data. If you haven't dealt with petabytes of data yet, you're eager to get there and have a plan for doing so.
You've got hands-on experience with large-scale SQL and NoSQL data stores. You've configured and extensively worked with at least one NoSQL data store, and you know how to tune it for maximum performance.
You've got some code we can look at. Jirafe is committed to releasing open-source software and we want you to be the same.
You're comfortable working with cloud-based infrastructures, particularly AWS. While we aren't necessarily wedded to AWS over the long-term, we use it heavily at the moment.
We don't really care what language you implement in, but you'll almost certainly need a strong knowledge of Java and the JVM to get this job done.
Familiarity with high-frequency transaction data is a big plus. You'll almost certainly need to ingest a whole lot of information in real-time to make what we need to happen happen.
While the geographic location of this position is flexible, no matter where you're at you'll be working with co-workers in multiple timezones, so you'll need to be comfortable with this.
